Add new material 5 hours before load-in?

Unless you've got something personal to prove, or happen to be in a real jam...I say NO. Polish your act. If I get a day or two notice, it is not so bad...but I've been down this road a lot and it was always a last minute decision that had absolutely no merit and was never pleasant for anyone...

What was your first bass amp and how bad was it?

The Peavey Combo 300 was my first amp as well. It had a big ole heat sink in the back of the amp and yeah...it weighed a ton. It was problematic for me. The 15" Black Widow speaker would fart out every time I played an F sharp note. I eventually replaced the speaker and within a few gigs the f...

Why did you quit a band?

Tired of playing Beatles songs. Tired of "Stevie-Wayne-Hendrix" guitarists. They're lurking everywhere and always control the playlist. Playlist songs constantly getting removed for whatever reason after I've spent hours rehearsing. Poor Communication (this is a big one) "No, I'm playing the...

Others playing your bass between sets or other

Me three....I'm a lefty too...but the fact that I'm a bass player pretty much seals the deal and keeps the flies away. There are way more guitar hero wannabes and drum experts that gravitate/stumble toward that section of the stage.

Any permanent guitar-to-bass converts out there?

I played guitar for 13 years before I picked up bass and I'm glad I picked it up. I still like and play guitar so i really don't have a preference but I will say that bass opened my eyes up to a lot of things musically that guitar didn't. Also, in a live band situation I've found bass to be much...

Fender Unveils All-New Platform with the Dimension Bass

Never fear. They have a massive variety of left handed, 4 string black jazz basses with rosewood fingerboards to choose from.

Chris Squire of Yes on Meeting Jimi Hendrix

Great story teller indeed. He told this story at one of his shows I went to and had the audience cracking up. He barely gave any clues as to who this mystery player/band was until somewhere near the end of the story. So it was a really cool surprise. Thanks for posting!

Can anybody play lefty and righty?

I say skip it. It's redundant. Just re-string it for a "righty" if you really want to buy it. I doubt there is anything to gain from learning the other way (aside from the "wow" factor)...especially after spending 6 years of playing/working at playing bass right handed. Time and effort would be...

How do you tell the drummer that it's too loud?

We've always done sound checks before practice...usually starting with just the bass and drums to determine appropriate volume levels. If I need to turn my amp up too much, I let the drummer know that it's getting too loud. From there we sound check with the rest of the band. If he begins to...

Sting`s FX at Beginning of Police:Don`t Stand So Close To Me?

Agreed. I'm not totally ruling out the possibility of an electric stand up. I realize with proper technique you can achieve almost seamless sustain with a bow...but yes, it seems too perfect to my ears too...not to mention that it doesn't even really sound like anything with an acoustic chamber...

Sting`s FX at Beginning of Police:Don`t Stand So Close To Me?

My vote is for the Moog being used. Just think "early eighties". Synth/keys were everywhere. Also, check out John Carpenters movie "The Thing" or "Escape from New York". You'll hear that same sound. A delay with volume swells might help a bit, but it won't be infinite sustain.

Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 discussion thread

...and it goes good with what I play. Got the same rig, and I'm very content. It's got me covered and does everything I need(and then some). I would, however, love to indulge and tryout the 9.0 through some Ubers.

Boss, MXR or Electro Harmonix - which one is best ?

Flanger: Another vote for the BF-2 Flanger. I still love that thing to this day on bass and guitar. Phaser: My Phase 90 is great. Seems to cover all bases. Other phasers just seem to be too much envelope or too much digital meow. Chorus: Again, just go with Boss. Boss was definitely 80's

    Ding Repair?

I doubt a minor repair will lower the value, but you might consider leaving it alone. The first ding is the toughest...and it burns in the back of your head for a few days....but it will pass. For me it's not "if it happens" it's "when it happens". If you plan on playing this bass...and playing...
