Hey gang. I have a new MusicMan Sterling, well new to me. And it has a ding in the upper horn. It is close to where it meets the neck. My question is, if I take it to a guitar tech to get it repaired, would the repair lower the value of the bass? Thanks!

If the repair is close to invisible, I think the guitar would not be devalued, but with visible damage it would be worth less to most buyers, then there are some buyers who really don't care.
I just didnt know that since it wasnt the original finish repairing it, if it affected the value of the bass.
If the ding looks natural and part of normal wear and tear, I would leave it. If the bass is a keeper and you plan on having it for quite some time, these sorts of things just add character IMO.
I dunno, to me a ding adds character to a bass. That being said I have very few on any bass. There is one prominent ding on my Geddy but I am leaving that one.
That all being said, I'd think a competent Luthier can do anything. If a total refin was done, and done well, I do not know how that could seriously devalue your bass.

I doubt a minor repair will lower the value, but you might consider leaving it alone. The first ding is the toughest...and it burns in the back of your head for a few days....but it will pass. For me it's not "if it happens" it's "when it happens". If you plan on playing this bass...and playing out with it, I'd let it slide. There will probably be more dings to come. Take care of it as best you can...but as mentioned, it adds character and some (myself included) don't mind stuff like that at all.
