    t-40 Worth renovating?

Yes, it's been awhile, but I've finally renovated my Peavey. Didn't come out too bad. Threw some shellac on it and got a new setup. Sounds great. Got a new pickup and found out the other one was fried, too. Still, it sounds great, looks a lot better, and plays like a dream-- on the neck pickup...

    Peavey t-40 setup

Duh. Answered my own question. Yes, I have been playing on a poorly adjusted instrument for 32 years. Just got my setup. Plays better than it ever has. Tech said the neck was all out of whack. Wow. What a difference. Peavey T-40s rock.

Help me decide on my first bass

Don't be confused. You've made your choice. If you love the look and it stand out, that's your bass. How does it play? Are you comfortable with it?

Help me decide on my first bass

Can't go wrong with Ibanez. Love 'em. Country of origin? I have an acoustic guitar made in Indonesia that plays like a dream. Not sure about China. Squier? Not high on Squier. Why? No particular reason. Always have had good luck with Ibanez though.

    The Beatles...really?

I wonder about that. "One" came out how many years ago? Where'd it wind up? Pretty high on the charts. Cirque du Soleil has been running "Love" for about how long now? My kids like the Beatles. Maybe music and pop culture has moved on. That may be true. Rap and hip hop are pretty popular. My...

Bass riff -- Everybody's got Something to Hide Except for Me and My Monkey!" Nuff said.

    The Beatles...really?

Used to buy into the anti-Beatles hype (propagated by Pete Townsend in "Kids are Alright" flick-- great movie BTW). Then I really looked at what they were doing and tried to play it. check out "Get Back" on the roof concert. Simple blues. Looks easy, right? Uh uh. Not so fast. Many variations...

The Song You Hate Most to Play

Yes! It's nice to hear that others hate playing SHA as much as I do. Put that one at the top of my list.

    Peavey t-40 setup

Nope. Went to shop yesterday. Shop guy says playing these is like "wrestling with a fat woman in a hammock." Guess the proof will be in the pudding when he's done setting it up.

    Peavey t-40 setup

Really, I'm looking for advice from anyone who's adjusted a Peavey T-40 before to make it easier to play? Do I have to adjust the torsion rod? Bridge height? tension?

    Peavey t-40 setup

Not sure what you mean by contour and radius? Do you mean I should consider a smaller bass?

    Peavey t-40 setup

My 1978 T-40 has always been difficult to play, physically demanding. I recently bought my daughter has an Ibanez bass that plays like butter: Zip Zip boom boom boing boing. Why are these basses so different? My guess is that I need to lower the action or change the setup on my Peavey, but I...

    t-40 Worth renovating?

Great advice Diogenes. Did exactly what you said and it was really easy. A little sanding and some spray shellac for the body kept the burn marks looking bitchin' and I found a replacement pickup. The guitar shop's putting soldering in the pickup now. Before and after pics soon. It came out much...

    Can't figure my daughter out

Your story mirrors mine. My daughter did the same thing. I'm disappointed, too because she has perfect pitch and can play anything-- if she wants to. My strategy is to sit around and play and make it look so fun that she'll want to do it. Either that or play her bass instead of mine all the...

    t-40 Worth renovating?

A fine bit o' work you've done there Scottpro, but I'll have to pass on your very generous offer. I'd gladly take it but I'm attached to my old beast. My ma bought it for me when I was 14. That said, I also don't want to mess around with the bridge. I'm afraid I'll wreck it if I try to take it off.
