    DIY "Tone stack" Bass Preamp...

It is the same. Instead of two j-fets, the tone stack is between two op-amp "halves" .The tone stack is the same, the resistor and capacitor values are identical. This is not bad thing, nonetheless! A good experiment! Quite a good one! see: Sadowsky Preamp Plus Buffer - Das Musikding Forum

Conversation I've had with my drummer

this is something extremely valuable! PLEASE keep to this! Your drummer friend is PRAGMATIC... and that's against exploration... Thinking that the bass is a boring instrument... was the common thing even in the '90s... (I only guess)... cause most people never actually heard the bass, due to...

    bass guitar signal voltage output

if that's "pushing", sure I'd however put it like this: active basses have the preamp in them which amplifies the signal, while passives don't amplification can be viewed as "pushing"... generating the signal should be seen as act no. 1. / "box" no. 1 in the process flow diagram, only after...

Poll: Getting over bass guilt and GAS regret.

hi, a brief advice which I got some decades ago from the viola player of a folk music band: never sell an instrument very simple, hard to beat, also no need to my advice: do not sell one, as you don't send back your older children either when a new one arrives :) (yes, they are family...

    bass guitar signal voltage output

just a subtle correction: active circuits do push (amplify) the signal, passive circuits (a potentiometer + a capacitor) don't push it at all... however, passive basses use preamps, too :) only not onboard... as we know I'd advise against buying a behringer... if you want a buffer, ask...

    bass guitar signal voltage output

Not just that, cause a normal IC, such as TL071 with 9 volts power supply will be able to amplify without clipping up to 7 volts. That's its headroom. (I'm no expert, this is jut common knowledge) There are ICs called "rail to rail", who can produce signal within power supply and zero volt, but...

hi, just a note: the B1-on is a nice toy -- and both parts of the statement carry a meaning :)

SGD pickups : David Schwab's issues with taking money and not delivering

hi, I'm not one of Swab's clients. ....... I was just reading this thread last night -- for more than an hour. I was sort of curious (from a psychological aspect, so to speak), cause I had seen many times Shwab's profile in forum threads, stroke through with the info that he had taken money...

    41-44 AWG: Who cares?

if someone has gotten this far, this link could be of great source for knowledge... Electrical differences by wire gauge, a practical demonstration (when I want to learn about pickups, I'll add "Antigua" to my google searches, and it works like magic : ) )

    Best Luthier Books?

banal as this mention is, Dan Erlewine: Guitar Player Repair Guide as most people around here know, he's made several videos, too... available on youtube... I'm sure everybody knows him, I just couldn't leave this thread -- with such a title: "best luthier books" -- without mentioning him :)

Anyone else having problems with Warwick strings lately? (And: Red = Black Label?)

hi, in short: I can confirm, warwick red labels are extremely NOT GOOD... .... in details: I had bought my first warwick red label SS set in around 2019... for my jazz bass... using fender vintage modified pickups, back then I was seeking "brightness" that wouldn't vanish in a few weeks' time...

    Yamaha NE-1... Anyone?

speaking from posterity :) it would have been so cool if those who went for it, had reported back about their experience... cause that could have justified this entire conversation between those who had sold it and wanted t buy it :) my comment from the relative future: build one

PJ bass: switch to eliminate/solo each pickup?

well, guys, this is what makes talkbass such an outstanding community and a place to acquire knowledge :) as a PJ owner, I've been extremely happy with the first answer already, by line6man, which we can call basic and perfect anyway, but even more could be said -- and learned... also from...

Why are most cabs that are ported tuned absurdly high?

wow, this topic is quite a good read! very exciting, and enlightening... that the pics re missing now is no bad thing either, cause this cab is for sure no DIY project... I think I've just learned a lot -- or at least I hope so :)
