6 String Basses - What are you go-to brands?

String spacing would be a big concern here, make sure you try them first. I tried the Ibanez BTB and they're too large for my hands at 18-19 mm (not sure). Then I found the Schecter Stiletto very comfortable at 16,5 mm. I'm sure it's different for each person.

    NBD- Jeff Berlin Rithimic

I think it's a flaw in his character, and the man himself has given hints about it many times. I mean he even admits going to therapy for it.

    NBD- Jeff Berlin Rithimic

Most of the time he is misunderstood, and couldn't care less to explain the proper context, which is learning music. When you learn music, either from reading or listening, you're supposed to find where the notes are on your instrument, and then decide how to move efficiently from one note to...

tuning my 5 string up 1/2 step c-g#... anyone else?

I did when I played with a guitarist who tuned down to C standard. Simple solution, indeed. The increased tension actually helped me to pick lighter on the strings.

Anybody else heard of this song? Level 42- love games

I remember this was on the radio all the time, pretty much got sick of it and can't be bothered to seriously listen to anything with slap on it for a while :roflmao:

    pinky problems

Just use it every day. Play something like the E minor scale but start on the 12th fret, play slowly, go up and down, use your pinky to press G and C. Focus on letting all the notes sound clear. You can repeat the pattern anywhere you feel comfortable, it's for strengthening your pinky. Do it...

Weird 3 finger approach to plucking??? What do you think?

I read somewhere that Sheehan actually forces himself to put an accent at every first downbeat, so that he doesn't sound like playing triplets all the time. So it sounds like 3213 2132 1321 3213… instead of 321 321 321 321 321 3…

Songs that absolutely •REQUIRE• a PICK for the right sound?

My experience is almost the same, I learned some classical guitar fingerstyle, played electric guitars with a pick, and played bass with fingers for over ten years without ever considering that all those techniques are valid for all those instruments! How unimaginative I was. BTW, I play...

    Seeking “budget” 6 string

A bit above your budget, but this stiletto from Schecter has served me well.

    Plucking finger independence?

Most of the time I'll start with the middle finger, then when I need to go to the next string, let's say from the A to the D, I'll use the one that is free, but when moving from the A to the E, I'll use the finger that's already resting on the E to pluck it. So it's alternating going up, but...

Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

I wonder if having less color variety contributes to keeping their price down…

    Best bass for finger style?

Any bass that has binding on the body (a la Rickenbacker) is not going to be comfortable for fingerstyle, because the body edge will hurt your forearm. Using a pick will be fine on them, because the way we rest our forearms on them will be different.

Master of Puppets - Bass C under the guitar C# stabs in the pre-solo

I play this song since high school (around '87-'90) and only a few years ago found out about this. Tried to play C in that part and hated it. C# it is.

    Anyone watch studio aysl?

He always plays the weirdest riffs, and the instrument often sounds improperly intonated.

Woe Behold The Man Actually Making Some Kind of Real Sense!

I think Jeff only meant to say two things: - If you pay someone to teach you bass, please make sure the material is not something you can learn by yourself. - When you're taking in new material, please focus first on finding where all the notes are and the best fingering to play it. All the war...
