    The Valenti Megathread Part IV

Just wondering, when it says that the body size is reduced on some models, just exactly how much smaller is it?

The hunt for a light weight bass

Spector RST 4 or 5. Wonderful basses in every respect.

Best Strings for a Warm, Growly Jazz

I find the Ernie Ball Hybrid Slinky 45-105 to be quite growly. They're all I use on my Jazz.

A question for those of you that have boutique basses

I'd check out Strackwoodworking if I were you. Dan Strack is a master luthier who's worked with Dan Lakin and Lakland, among others. He's now building his own creations from reclaimed wood that's been drying for 150+ years. Excellent workmanship, feel, and tone, and he'll customize just about...

What pedals for crazy "out there" sounds?

Check out the Dolmen from Mountainking Electronics. No idea what it exactly does, but it certainly does something that's pretty far out there if you want it to.

    Mesa WD800 or Hartke LH1000???

The LH1000 is heavy, reliable, LOUD, has great tone, and takes pedals/effects really well. No experience with the Mesa, unfortunately.

    D.I recommendations?

I really like the TC Electronic SpectraComp. Great preamp, and you can download a whole bunch of different drive and compressor settings.

    Block Inlays

I see your point, but no noticeable difference.

How do I stop buying basses? It feels like an illness at this point...

Trust me, it IS an illness (that no doctor can cure)

MXR M288 Bass Octave Deluxe vs MXR M280 Vintage Bass Octave

I own the VBO. I find the oct2 pretty much useless, even with a bright and well defined EBMM Stingray. I use he oct1 mainly for fattening up the tone when the guitar player is off to some soloing wonderland, it works pretty good for that as long as you mix a lot of dry signal in.

    Rate my board

I personally would run the delay right after the chorus, which puts the Microtubes last (it is a preamp, right...?)

Have you ever played a bad-sounding bass?

I had a Yamaha banana bass reissue about 20 years ago, think it was called SBV-500 or something. Couldn't get a useful tone out of it, just sounded weird.
