Is there an Argument AGAINST High Pass Filters?

I don't use amps, just a sans amp and IEMs. My house sound seems woofy and undefined but the sound in my ears is tight and punchy. Can a HPF help me here?

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

First week with IEMs today. I was skeptical and rather frustrated after rehearsal on Thursday. The wifi network for controlling our mixes was flaky at best and I was using Shure 425 universals. I couldn't get a good seal with any of the foam tips and the cable was too heavy which was constantly...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

There is a lot of stuff out there of me playing guitar at my last church. We had the megachurch thing going with a weekly local TV spot. It's out there but I'll just leave it be for now. Bass? Not so much. My current church has a private YouTube channel for personal review and rehearsal but not...

One Strap per bass or one for multiple?

One hippy style strap for each instrument, color coordinated of course.

Rickenbacker 4003 vs. Fender Jazz Bass

I have no personal experience with Rickenbackers but I am gassing for one hard. This thread, despite the naysayers, is not helping. I did own a HWY1 J a few years ago. It played well but I couldn't find a sound a liked enough to keep it. I don't mind an instrument that is a bit ornery. I have a...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Remember, guitarists are in a battle for sonic real estate with vocalists, pianists, keyboardists, horns, winds, strings, the loop if you use one, and just about every other instrument playing in the treble clef. It can be difficult to cut through. When I played guitar at my last church I told...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

I struggle playing with some church drummers, mostly the ones who only play at church. I played three services on Sunday and I'm pretty sure our drummer used a different kick pattern for song in every service. Good drummer. Excellent chops. Difficult to groove with. Perhaps being a drummer...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

First week playing at new church. It went pretty well considering I'm not much of a bassist (see my post regarding worship clarinet!!). The worship leader and music director were happy with my playing so I guess I did alright. Played with a good group of musicians. 4-piece band with violin...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Must be bass or they wouldn't have let me join. Bass is my third best instrument, fourth best if you count the clarinet. I haven't heard much worship clarinet though, thankfully.

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

Most of the cost is in the engineering of the treatment not the actual materials. Simply hanging acoustical baffles from the ceiling could work, or it could create even more problems. My brother is a church technical director and has dealt with this issue in three separate venues at his church...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

I love discussing the use of contemporary worship in liturgical settings. I was raised in a more contemporary church so that's where my comfort is. Since dating and then marrying my wife who works at a Catholic school and church, however, I've become fond of the liturgy and how music plays a...

The Praise and Worship Band Bassists Club

To my untrained ears, the recording sounds like it was tracked using a pick. I prefer using fingers but sometimes the pick is the right tool for the job, probably along with a P-bass and compressor for this tune. If your bandmates don't overplay or try to step on your toes during the verses you...

Watch out. With those GZRs, that might become your main gigging bass.

What are the best online bass lessons?

I've been a fan of Scott's Bass Lessons. While there is plenty of stuff for beginners, I like that you can jump in and learn a lick or two just to increase your "music vocabulary." I'm sure other sites or channels do the same thing. I pretty much fake my way through just about anything and try...

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

I was under the impression that insertion loss only occurred with blend pots and pickups of different output impedance. I guess dual volume pots are essentially doing the same thing as a blend pot plus a volume pot. Maybe I'll live with it or maybe I'll try out the ABC.
