Roundwounds for Fender American Precision Deluxe

Thanks for the tips! Hope I can find the Fender strings here in Belgium. The 'growl' is the mid tone of the Fender P, I guess. I have no other bass that comes close (Fender J, MusicMan and a couple of Ibanez basses). I did get close again with my D'Addario strings on a gig last saturday...

Roundwounds for Fender American Precision Deluxe

I've never really cared about the sound of strings until now : A few months ago I bought a new Fender P American Deluxe. I absolutely loved the growly aggresive sound. But a few weeks ago I had to put new strings on it and it seems to have lost the 'growl'. I first thought this was because...

Pictures of my EBS rig. Review to follow

Flea, could you also give an impression of the Fafner connected to only the 2x12" (bottom end, enough power) ? I also just received my Fafner and I'm using it with a 4 ohm 8x10". It gives plenty of power and a very nice low end but I'm looking for something more portable for smaller gigs. I'm...

Pickup advice for Ric-like custom bass

Thank you ! I was going nuts reading about all the pickup options. :) Do you think all the Bartolini soapbars finishing with 'C' all sound the same (M34C, BB4C, BC4C) and there's only a difference in size ? Are you going to place the pickups the same way as on a Ric ? I would love to hear...

Pickup advice for Ric-like custom bass

Hello guys, I'm letting a luthier build a custom bass for me, loosely based on a Ric. The shape will be more modern but I like the placement of the pickups. I played an Italia with the pickups in the same place and I loved the sound. Sadly not the look. I'm going crazy over the choice of...

Italia Basses, anyone here have one?

I don't have an Italia (yet), but this saturday I played with a Rimini. Connected it to an Ashdown Evo 300 and it sounded beautiful. I only did some slight eq tweaking on the Ashdown and I had a nice 'growl', with plenty of highs and lows. I also played some other basses in the same price range...

    Ibanez ATK initial impressions

+1 I bought a new ATK to replace my 90ties model. I read that it was less heavy and thought that the rest (sound, playability) was the same, so I ordered one without playing it first. Well, it doesn't sound at all like the old ATK's (electronics? wood?), the tone seems to be less 'solid'...

What bass for a pick player? (stingray like tone)

I play with upstrokes for 20 years now and I never saw anyone play like that. So maybe it's not the best method, it can be very hard on the whrist near the end of a gig. When I just started (age 13), I had a 15W amp and I had to play like this to be heard over the guitars. Never got rid of...

What bass for a pick player? (stingray like tone)

These are my weapons to fight my loud guitarists (Marshall and Mesa) : Ibanez ATK / Musicman Sub (both active) Pick : 1mm Hartke HA5500 (flat eq) + VX810 Volume of the amp is between 2 and 3 and that's enough to cut through. I do have a strange playing style. I only play upstrokes...

    Up Tuning ?

I couldn't find anything about this : Would it be armful for a bass to tune it half a tone higher ? Or would this cause too much neck tension ? We're going to be joined permenantly by a piper and his bagpipe is tuned to si b mol. If I tune my bass half a tone higher I'll have the si b...

    Bass for punk.....BESIDES the P-bass?

Sorry, I meant that in a general public kind of way. Here in Belgium, bands like Blink or Offspring are considered 'punkrock' and lots of bands over here follow that line of thinking. So, mostly, when you go see a band that's labeled punkrock, you get punkpop, not funny. Peter.

    Calling all Hartke amp users!

    Lots of useful settings here ! I use a 5500 + VX810. These are mine : Tube : 3 o'clock SS : 12 o'clock Compressor : 10 o'clock EQ : used to have a smiley but nowadays it's off Bass : 2 o'clock Treble : 2 o'clock Master : never above 10 o'clock (depending on the venue) Peter.

    Calling all Hartke amp users!

Some ideas : Active bass in the passive input ? Preamps running too hot (what are your settings) ? You can check this by setting the compressor to +/- 10 o'clock. If the led occasionaly turns red on the loudest notes, you should have a clean input signal. If it turns red below 10 o'clock...

    Bass for punk.....BESIDES the P-bass?

That you don't need a P bass to play 'punk' ? Peter.
