    Maintain Grover tuners

These tuners work well but are a little sticky. I'd like to clean and oil them, but would appreciate some helpful advice. My plan is to clean the cog with naphtha, remove the butterfly nob, and then lubricate with sewing machine oil on either side of the G and R (in Grover). Is this the right...

    1 volume control vs 2

I'd like to understand the pros/cons between the two following setups on a bass with excellent pickups. 1. One dedicated tone pot/pickup and 1 volume control 2. One dedicated tone pot and 1 volume control/pickup (ie, 2 tone pots and 2 volume controls). Would number 2 be preferable as...

Hipshot Supertone 3 Point bridge: Opinions wanted

Thanks again Tbird. I'm inexplicably attached to that bass. I guess I feel like we've rescued something worth saving; a unique conversation piece for fellow bass geeks, anyway.

Hipshot Supertone 3 Point bridge: Opinions wanted

Thanks Lowendrv. It was just a lucky find. I think it was those pickups that motivated my son to learn how to play bass, and motivated me to try to fix the thing.

Excellent! Thanks Crater. Much appreciated. That's how I have them, but turning the knob provides very little, maybe no, difference in tone. I may have fried the pots/caps or have too small of a cap, but at least I now know the wiring is right. Thanks for removing a variable!

Can someone confirm that the other end of the wire that is attached to the wiper lug of the tone pot can be attached to the same lug on the selector switch that the pickup wire is attached? Or does the pickup go to the tone pot and another wire goes from the tone pot to the selector lug? (See...

Hipshot Supertone 3 Point bridge: Opinions wanted

Hi Tbird. Your instructions were great. I found some medium ca glue (Zap-a-Gap) for a few bucks at a chain-style crafts/hobby store. Although I probably used about 50X too much, the ferrules are solidly in place and the bridge is flush to the body. The strings were easy to adjust and intonate...

Hipshot Supertone 3 Point bridge: Opinions wanted

Thanks guys. I'll see if home depot has some medium ca glue. I'm guessing it's something like krazy glue, but if you could suggest a brand, i'd appreciate it. Thanks again!

Hipshot Supertone 3 Point bridge: Opinions wanted

Thanks Bobster I've enclosed some pics of the bass as my son found it, and how it looks now. It's a ripper knockoff by Maya. Someone, somehow bent the bridge way beyond the 7.25 radius of the fretboard so we had to replace it. (We also replaced the caps, pots, switch and jack.) The hipshot...

Hipshot Supertone 3 Point bridge: Opinions wanted

Any suggestions for keeping body inserts in place after installation of Hipshot three point bridge on a Gibson ripper? If glue, what brand or type? Or should I glue a couple of toothpicks in the wholes and try to wedge the inserts in? Suggestions much appreciated. Btw, new bridge is awesome.

1963 Les Paul Gibson Maya Bass

We just replaced all the caps and pots in a Maya (Gibson) Ripper. We Tried to replace everything exactly as before except we used an audio taper instead of a linear taper for the volume pot. Now the volume has very little dynamic range and can't be turned off completely. Is it because of the...

1963 Les Paul Gibson Maya Bass

What's really freaky is that the left post has a small hex nut inserted between it and the bridge as a spacer.
