"Caveat emptor!" or "Be sure to plan things properly!"

I'm sharing this with everyone for what it's worth. A few months ago, I was asked to run sound for and record a fairly large church service this past Sunday. Due to the size of the event, it was being held in the ballroom of a hotel. This meant that I would not be given the opportunity of...

WHAT SOFTWARE AND HOW MUCH ?

I have both the Tascam USB interface and the M-Audio 2496 card. Both are great interfaces, especially since both have street prices that are under $200. In terms of the software to use, I've been using Cubase since VST3.5 and wouldn't switch at all. I agree that it has a learning curve that...

Time to call it quits and liquidate??? (long rant)

I'll..uh...hold on to your gear...a human supervised storage space...yeah, that's the ticket...while you decide what to do. :D :D :D

    Recording sounds AWFUL, need help!

Thanks for the clarification. I guess I should follow my own advice about checking background information, eh? :(

    Recording sounds AWFUL, need help!

+1 to the poster who said that the Audigy wasn't meant for recording. Spend the $150 for a M-Audio 2496 or a Tascam US-144. The latter works on a USB interface and delivers 96KHz / 24 bit recording in 2 tracks simultaneously on a USB 2.0 interface with 0 latency. I own both of these...

    Any quick explanation of 44k, 48k, 88.2k, 96k

As I understand it, more bits do not give you more headroom. They simply allow the dynamics to be more accurately represented in the recording. Higher sample frequencies (44, 48, 96, etc.) allow for a richer set of harmonics to be captured, leading to a more accurate representation of the...

    Simple Sampler Modules?

+1 There are substantial differences in the products depending on which route you choose.

Do you smile much while playing live ?

Can anyone recall the most recent performance (before their breakup obviously) when the Beatles did not all smile for the entire gig? Thread over. :D

I don't mean to sound bitter, but..(rant coming!)

I'm the keyboardist in my band and it takes me longer to setup than anyone else due to the amount of equipment I have. I feel the same way about the rest of the members. ;)

    Weddings...what do you charge?

As my good friend "HooBass" calls them, both "Brown-Eyed Swirl" and "What About Poo" should be banned.

Question? Hoe to enhance bass on recorded music?

Actually, with maybe the exception of classical where the complete aural range (notes and dynamics) are important, music that you listen to is extremely compressed. I can't stress that enough. Your best bet might be to try a band filter or a graphic equalizer. If memory serves me correctly...

    Phenomenal Slap/Funk Tech

Take a look at the bass solo in the middle of this song. It starts at around 2:35. Yes, it's Yanni. And, yes, the solo is phenomenal also.

fretless intonation and practicing w/ headphones

This is all fascinating. I didn't know about the detuning, but it explains a few things. Thank &deity; for Melodyne! :P
