Lets make this the last Hofner Icon vs Contemporary Thread

Just a curious question (since I'm not left handed anyway)...but why are the lefty versions of the icon $30 more than the right handed versions? (at least this is the case at GC)

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

Picked up my copy today and must say I'm impressed. His voice is the best I've heard in the last 5 years or so (not so much capturing his youth as much as utilizing his maturing voice in terrific fashion). Also, one of the bonus cuts is a remake of 'Baby's Request' (from Paul's/Wings' album...

Lets make this the last Hofner Icon vs Contemporary Thread

Just to update, I'm loving this bass. I'm actually trying to balance just reading tabs and playing songs along with actually trying to learn how to play bass in general

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

Thanks a lot - I think my 14 y/o daughter has been getting more of a work out on it so far (highlight being that she learned the basic bass riff to Come Together...but not the entire song yet)...as for me, at first I cheated and quickly learned a couple of songs off Youtube (the basic/common...

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

John Sebastian is another example, although in his case, I tend to recall some type of ailment or condition, although I can't remember exactly what...Which was too bad, because I enjoyed a lot of his stuff (yes - including the theme song to Welcome Back Kotter:-))

    Guitar Center Opinion?

Did receive good service today while buying a new bass guitar...and they allowed me to use two coupons, although I technically had to go through two transactions...one for the bass and one for the amp I purchased...so it was all good:-)

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

Hey - I think I know you...from PM.com...LOL...I concur that starting with Flowers in the Dirt, his albums in general, while largely missing that one giant song many Wings albums had, has been more consistant than his Wings albums...Indeed Flaming Pie and Chaos are in my top 5 post Beatle Paul...

Lets make this the last Hofner Icon vs Contemporary Thread

Thanks a lot - I can tell you that for the foreseable future, this is basically going to be a living room thing, probably playing along with songs, etc

Lets make this the last Hofner Icon vs Contemporary Thread

It's official - Just got home with my new bass, the Hofner Icon series in the sunburst color scheme (they had a black one which I had no interest in)...Throw in an entry level Ampeg amp and a Mogami cable and I'm close to $500 lighter today...LOL. But I was allowed to use two coupons - one which...

    Abe Laborial Jr

He also has one tour with Sting, several years back...I believe that was the only time I didn't really hear rave reviews about his work...but at the same time, I don't think a lot of Sting's work allows Abe to do what he does best (basically 'go nuts' in a controlled and tasteful/meaningful...

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

I would split the difference and say Paul's a better guitar player than John, but not as good as George. Paul's solo on Taxman, Maybe I'm Amazed (just to name a few) are terrific...

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

The way younger generations still discover them, the Beatles will be remembered for a loooong time...The Beatles compilation album '1' was the biggest selling album of the year just a few years ago...in the face of artists such as Britney Spears or who ever the flavor of the month...and the...

    Abe Laborial Jr

I know:hiding: I did spell it right in another thread:D (talking about Paul's new album in the 'recordings' folder) Regardless, he's a superb drummer (and actually quite the showman...LOL) in my opinion..

McCartney's new album "Kisses on the Bottom"

There's no doubt his best days are behind him though...however, while this is not so much a defense of the current status of his voice as much as just making a point, a lot of the 'croakiness/voice crackings/wobbled vocals' are not noticably evident (maybe because everything is cranked up so...
