Why are tube amps not as widely used by modern bass players?

I have to admit that it is true that how the musician feels about his sound affects the quality of his playing!

I love uTorrent. Never have to pay for music again. :D

Double Bass Can One Really Learn Online?

Believe it or not, you can get a lot of FREE stuff on youtube from good teachers. And if you are actually logged in to Youtube, it will modify your information feed to bring you similar stuff. It's how I found a lot of great stuff.

Live teacher is best. Online with videos is second best. Books are third.

    White basses on stage

I don't like black basses or black cars. I buy all my cars new and they are all white. Oddly, I sold the only white bass I had. It was a fretless hohner 4 string jazz that weighed about a hundred pounds. I'll probably never buy another bass (I have six, all different), unless I simply MUST...

And in a live situation, close is more than enough. :) It's only in the studio where those nuances really matter.

Why are tube amps not as widely used by modern bass players?

Yep. I'm an old hi-fi salesman that didn't pick up the bass until 1998 at age 44. Being a gear head, I wondered why guitar players still used tube amps. In the world of hi-fi tubes were simply for people with more money than they knew what to do with because they distort the sound (warmth =...

Are you a one bass guy, or not?

I have six basses. The Yamaha BBN five I bought from a pawn shop in 1998 and added Bartelinni 18 volt electronics to in '99 is my go-to bass to this day. However, I used the Dean Acoustic electric four for "acoustic" gigs (which I now rarely do). I also have a couple of Jazz four strings, a jazz...

    4 string bass G string

I have an active bass. I flip the mid switch to "high mids" and crank it up to get that midrange bite.

What songs do you feel NEED a 5 string bass?

I got a sixer from Rondo from the "scratch and dent" section for $120. It's a very beautiful silver, but I had to put a shim between the neck and body to get the neck correct. And it's got a dead 23rd fret on the C string (Slightly lower than the 24th fret). I planned on using it in church...

What songs do you feel NEED a 5 string bass?

I started playing in 1998 and learned on five. A couple of years later I picked up a four and it was fine, until I tried to use the fiver hand position for a song in E. oops. The killer was trying to play "Summer of 69" with a four and I was used to going DOWN at the key change. but "down"...

What songs do you feel NEED a 5 string bass?

I came across this video a few days ago. For all intents and purposes, it should end the thread. :) It actually explains why you SHOULD play one too.

Or a song in E becomes a song in Eb.

What songs do you feel NEED a 5 string bass?

That's kinda like saying any car can be driven on any road. Though that is true, it misses the point.

What songs do you feel NEED a 5 string bass?

The only playing I do now is at church. A fiver is fairly necessary because a lot of songs use pretty much every fret below E on the B string. Sometimes I even end a song in B on the low B. We have really good subs, though.
