So many of us wear black or dark stage clothes that I just don't get the popularity of black basses, which disappear into dark clothes and black backdrops.
I don't like black basses or black cars. I buy all my cars new and they are all white. Oddly, I sold the only white bass I had. It was a fretless hohner 4 string jazz that weighed about a hundred pounds.
I'll probably never buy another bass (I have six, all different), unless I simply MUST have a P bass some day. So I'll probably never have a white bass.
