    HELP!!!! stage Volume.

The drummer is going to have serious hearing issues. Your hearing is not something to gamble with. Issues will not show up until later. Tinnitus can become permanent, be careful. Find earplugs that help cut some of the level and raise your cab or use a monitor only for your bass. Maybe change...

Anyone still gig their old lead sleds?

I recently began playing again after a long beak. My Eden WT to Eden 410xlt still sounds great. But I am lacking the desire to lug the cab around. Thought about getting a 2 10 combo. Anyone have thoughts on the Amped RB210 or the Asdown or GK? Maybe another option that is not the rumble.

    NBD 75’ Gibson Ripper

Packard Goose - good catch! You are correct the older models have the screws through the pickups. The design was changed between 76-77.

    NBD 75’ Gibson Ripper

The original pickup configuration used 3 screws in a triangle that would attached through the pick guard. Some time between 74 & 75 the pickups were changed to have the screws go through two pickup pole pieces.

    breaking a string live

This all depends on your playing style, Do you have a heavy or hard attack? Type of strings , Some brands in my experience are prone to break. Is this gig a casual gig or a professional gig or opportunity. If this is an opportunity, Why leave it to chance? Bring extra strings used or new and a...

I need help with pedal setup

I suggest looking at used pedals , check a used music shop, pawn shop or even Craig's list. You probably can find a tuner for under 25 and pickup a used boss bass overdrive , you can find a used one for under 50 sometimes. Start there then add as you go. You do not need to have everything to...

Cliff Burton & Lars Ulrich: Isolated bass and drum tracks to "Seek and Destroy" (1983)

I think when you listen, you need to keep in mind the time it was recorded. They were not superstars with mega budgets. The thrash scene was similar to the punk scene , you recorded in basements or a house or a very low cost studio, usually a record was done in a weekend including mixing. It...

Why the common hate for MEC Pickups & preamps here?

I believe the dislike may lie with inconsistency of the stock mecs. I have a 2000 corvette standard fretless with passive pickups and it has a fantastic sound. I have a 2001 corvette fretted with mecs and the active preamp, the sound is not nearly as nice as the fretless even when it is in...

    Boss ODB-3

I have had one for about 15 years. Like all boss pedals it is a good solid pedal. You can find better ones but not for the money. I have seen used odb-3 sell for between $50-$80. You will need to spend a few min with it to find the sound you are looking for. For the money it is a good bang for...

What one thing took your playing to the next level?

I met a really great instructor who ever so slightly changed my left hand position. He would also have me learn portions of songs that seemed random but were to teach a different technique. Also playing a sax, trumpet , guitar or drum line on the bass. Good constructive practice and tons of...

Regroup the band, stay quit or start something new?

A professor once told me that music is like a jealous mistress. If you devote too much time to her and the rest of your life will suffer, devote too little time and you may find other things to replace her. Since you have limited time available, I suggest following your heart. If you want to...
