The all-black one is a precision bass special. Mine has been slightly modded and is my go-to bass at the moment.

I found the neck to be too thin for my tastes, it was way heavy too. I only kept mine month or so.

I agree that knobs shouldn't fall but sometimes my shoelaces come undone too. When this happens, I tend to tie them a little tighter. It's no big deal, I don't blame the quality of my shoes. The OP stated that he wanted... ... the knobs, seriously?

You can "search forums with google" ^ using the term "PJ". One such thread here. Some hear a difference some don't.

Maybe it's GC that loosen the knobs to sell more when they fall off? :)

The only problem with any Affinity is that it won't be perfect. But then again, nothing ever is. There are thousands of threads from "real" Fender owners explaining that they're bent plate bridge needs to be changed out and they're pups aren't up to scratch, etc. Squiers are no different. A...

Ok, that seems to hold true. But this bit confused me: Let me give another example, jags have "Jaguar" on the headstock of a jazz profile neck. So, the name on the headstock bears no relation to to neck profile... or am I misunderstanding something? Maybe I need another coffee. :hmm:

But don't the Fender Precision Deluxe Special & the Squier Precision Special have PJ configurations and jazz necks that read "Precision Bass" on the headstock?

That's why!! I GAS'd for ages over a Fender Jag without ever pulling the trigger, the Squier had rave reviews but just didn't look right.
