Also considering a MM style humbucker at the bridge and a single coil at the neck. Not positive yet though... Opinions?

I don't mean to stray off-topic but to briefly answer your question I have a Cort that has that set up and it has killer tone! I must say that I only play it on the MM pup coz it's the easiest way for me to duplicate a StingRay

they made p basses back in the early 70's that had jazz bass necks too. they were called 'A' necks. AFAIK, and as stated earlier, Fender has always referred to the body's shape to determine it's name, not the neck profile or pickup arrangement.

I love mine too. I like the Fender better than the Squires, but I'm glad the squires are out there. They look pretty cool too to me.

Ok, that seems to hold true. But this bit confused me:

The name on the headstock apparently tells you which kind of neck the bass have (Mark Hoppus have a Precision neck and the Duff McKagan has a Jazz neck), but Fender names the bass after the body shape, so it is a Mark Hoppus Jazz Bass and a Duff McKagan P Bass.

Let me give another example, jags have "Jaguar" on the headstock of a jazz profile neck. So, the name on the headstock bears no relation to to neck profile... or am I misunderstanding something? Maybe I need another coffee.

Yeah, I think you're right.

That is actually pretty confusing: the name of the bass is not actually what you get on the headstock in the case of the Mark Hoppus and the Duff McKagan, which in those cases seem to refer to the neck profile... This is much more annoying to me than calling the Squier a Jaguar
