I'm going to do what @Grinderman suggested and take it from there. Will probably keep the original bridge and see how it goes. Kind of a strange question, but does anyone make a bridge for a P-J bass with the mounting screws in a different position from the 'universal' standard? Guess I could mount a new one lower on the body, but that can't be good for the overall set-up. I have a Squier P-bass which has strings that...

Just an update.. I managed to pick up an Ashdown Tone Man ? (very little web info,Thomman -ashdown thing) 2x12 for a bargain. Noticeable improvement with the 2 cabs.. I'm able to turn the volume to 5 ish and get to where I want to be volume-wise, the amp starts to break up around 6. So happy...
