How important is promo (website, photos, video) for your band?

35 year old from the uk - to give context on my opinion. professional promo is an absolute must for a professional band. Photos. Website. Showreel. Recently married myself and have been to plenty of weddings of the past few a years. I am not booking someone for a wedding whose only presence...

    TB pet peeves.

I’m not dogging on you but….

    TB pet peeves.

It’s the lack of an ego check for me. If someone has started a thread, it’s not about you. Listen and answer if you have anything helpful to contribute… If someone asks for opinions on Mexican Player P vs Sterling Sting Ray, don’t post a picture of your American Standard Jazz bass and advise...

What makes a good, successful tribute band?

It's also about just providing something a potential audience can latch on to and get excited about. If you're an average rock covers band with a random name, no USP, no stage presence, and wears shorts onstage, it doesn't mean anything to anyone really. It's easy to see a poster for a Queen...

Filling out the sound and transitioning to a 3-piece?

My suggestion in these situations is to not over think it. If it's a great song, the audience will dance and sing along no matter what. Imagine someone picking up an acoustic guitar and singing 'Don't Look Back in Anger' by Oasis... In the UK at least. Doesn't matter how that song is arranged...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Is this right, the pickup is not him cancelling? Why would they do this? I was looking to pickup this bass, but that’s a dealbreaker for me. I’m not keen to spend £1000+ on a bass that needs upgrades.

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Really intrigued by the junior jazz bass. What you think of your two?

    Why is it so hard?

As others have said, you will have to manage the project as band leader to get what you want out of it. Try to think of it, and explain it to the others, as setting up a business (obviously you are setting up a business, but it’s making this clear to the others). It’s not a hobby band where...

Conversation I've had with my drummer

I think that was the drummers most polite way of telling you that you may not be up to his standard. Hard to get a full picture from the clip you shared, but to me it sounds a little sloppy. In the context of a tight drummer and band, it may be enough to make the whole band sound sloppy. He’s...

Getting folks on the same sheet of music

For me, I would be leaving and starting out on my own. The situation is not going to change. If it’s an originals, then a solo project where other musicians work as hired guns. You’re already doing this, so take the frustration out. If it’s a covers band, see it as your business with session...

    Just lost a gig

To add a little more context, I’m based in the uk. Played plenty of wedding venues. Can’t remember a venue not asking to see PLI.

    Just lost a gig

It’s common practice when playing functions. Actually, it more than common, it’s pretty standard practice. Same with ensuring all your gear is PAT tested. If someone gets hurt because of you and your equipment, they can sue you directly, nothing to do with the venue.
