I struggled with this when I first got my Rumble. Then I was given the Dewalt case, which I was going to sell, but I put it all together - cables, pedalboard ect. in the case, then the amp on top! It even works for transporting the amp!

This was done with my Hero 5.

I use the Fender Rumble Stage 800. I use the USB out direct to my Mac for recording. Works great.

This is exactly what I do, except I have the old X2 (readily found used for $150ish or less), 5 years of hard giggin' and still going strong. IMHO, do it because YOU want to do it, not your singer. If you feel you have your end of things under control, then let him know that.
