Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

Thanks for the shots @Thunderitter! That work looks great. I hope I can achieve similar results :) Thanks! I think it is starting to look better as I put on Tru Oil too, because the wood starts matching the epoxy in glossiness. As for the chips there, the picture below is how it came (Sorry...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

So I've been putting some tru oil on there but also I drilled out the string-through holes. I'm gonna do what I saw 49sfine and thunderitter do on page 9 of this thread (and it looks great!!) and plug the hole and do an inlay and drill new holes. Mostly just because I wanted them to be lined up...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

I did a bit more. I got a router attachment for my dremel and did this: I sanded everything down for a while and tried out epoxy on the back of the bass. It was a bit of a disaster. I didn't realized that you need to be pretty careful to make sure the hardener and epoxy mix together well. I...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

I've been working on sanding everything down. I'm wanting to use epoxy for grain fill and tru oil for a finish. How important is it that I get all of Mr. Wishnevsky's finish off before doing this? Does it not matter? My concern is that if I start putting Tru Oil on. it'd make any spot that still...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

Thanks, I'll give that a shot! One thing that concerns me a little bit is that I was reading about planing the fingerboard, but it seems in most cases you'd adjust the truss rod a little bit to simulate there being strings on while you sand. Given there's no truss rod, do I just not worry about...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

Ah thanks, I guess I should have looked around a little first :) I'll try that KwikWood stuff. Yours looks nice!

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

I've been fiddling around on it and I think I'm gonna really like this bass. I'm not disappointed at all. Perhaps someone here could point me in the right direction on this. If I hold down the E, A or D strings, the string buzzes. I'd imagine this is because the saddle is too short. If I'm not...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

Well I've taken it out and examined it. I was honestly expecting the finish to be worse than it is. It's well within the realms of cleaning up into a really nice looking instrument. The wood looks great. I plugged it in and played around for a minute. I'll need to fiddle with setting it up, the...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

As long as they use the front door... It should be here today. One of the things that I was considering is plugging the string-through-body holes and putting a solid bridge on. I've seen a few people do that, and I'm curious in general of any tonal difference? I saw that it may need recessed...

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

Thanks :) That's more or less what I was thinking. I've never finished a bass with something other than an opaque finish, so there'll be some things to learn regarding that I imagine.

Wishbass Club 2.0....Out of the Ashes

I snagged a lobe off eBay. I've been reading through the wishbass club and I like what's going on here. As it stands I'm expecting to basically take it all apart and refinish it. I don't know if I have the tools or knowledge to get results like some of the great work I've seen in this thread...

    Neg Feedback Deserving Behavior

I agree entirely. My last comment on conducting oneself professionally was a general sentiment towards dealing with people online, not targeted at the seller.

    Neg Feedback Deserving Behavior

Among the OP's questions was if the bass has any mechanical or electrical issues. This seems like a question that someone who has the instrument in hand would be able to answer. The seller said they are unable to answer that. Now, my presumption would be that the seller just didn't really take...

    Neg Feedback Deserving Behavior

I don't think this is really a good analogy at all. It would be more like if it was a home built car from custom spec parts and the seller was the second owner. My feeling on it is that the seller should have been able to answer at least the question of if it has any mechanical or electrical...

    Rattle Can Refinish Club

I figure I'd share a second project I've been working on here. I bought an unfinished bass body from an eBay seller (Rosser Guitars) and was actually very pleasantly surprised. It looks to be a really nice piece of wood. Downside is it's ash and has deep grain. I've never finished a bass body...
