Double Bass Pace Bass - a cure for BG tendonitis

Hey folks, An EUB has been on the wishlist for a while, and I dropped a little cash for a Dean Pace bass. It's no Ergo, but given my smaller hands and already-present stress injury from playing BG, I felt a shorter scale would minimize my pain and maximize my learning. I was right - playing...

    Unplugged Shows

I love the chamber music vibe myself. I suppose that's also from studying Early Music and church music. One of the best live music experiences I've had was at my community college where a touring string quartet did Philip Glass with no PA in a 200 seat auditorium. I would enjoy trying my hand...

Where to start with Fela Kuti?

Can't go wrong with Fela. I have a picture of him smoking a 10 inch joint on stage.

    Fingerstyle over the bridge pickup

Hi folks, With any luck, a pic of my PJ should appear below, an ESP LTD Vintage-204... set up with flats, a pickup cover, and a thumbrest. Pretty sweet after a little work. I installed the thumbrest because the precision pickup's sweet spot can really be heard when I balance my right thumb...

What song can you just not play

Trying to play Paul Chambers' bass lines is tough. I don't cover songs note-for-note (mostly because I don't play with folks who care), but when I need to, I usually can, with some practice as Euka suggests. I have yet to try to play Jaco's Donna Lee past the first two bars.

    Picks and Picking

The grippy Dava picks work for me. I have some wrist injury in my right hand, and it's flared up this week (no fingerstyle for me). My go-to pick is that Dava, sounds pretty mellow, but with a bite if I stiffen my grip.

What would you do? ... Bass Replacement..

I don't think you can ever get back what you're looking for, but that's not entirely bad - to me, it seems like circumstance helped you outgrow your original bass. I think you should forgive the debt, and ask your friend to pay it forward. Go to GC and buy a new friend and see where your bass...

    Is music theory important?

I'm a self-taught player, without a lot of music theory. I feel like I need the knowledge now, since I want to play more jazz. Really, I love jazz, and want to be able to hear the other players and know what they're doing on more than an intuitive level. I have a great ear. If I need to finish a...

    It's another new guy!

Thought I'd add a picture, too. Maple fingerboard model.

    It's another new guy!

Hey folks, I'm Ari, new to this forum, not new to bass. I've recently moved from playing casually to playing seriously - learning more music theory to back up my intermediate-level chops - and TB looked like a great place to get some guidance as I learn more. The other day I picked up an...
