Risk of upgrading a bandsaw motor?

I have the same bandsaw - a 14" Rockwell (Delta). I replaced the stock 1/2 hp motor with a 1 hp Baldor motor, wired for 230 volts. I did this because the stock motor didn't have enough torque for resawing wide stock (I also added the extra 6" riser block). I'm very happy with the setup, and...

Phil Jones Bass Combo M-7 as practice amp?

I have a Micro 7 that I use as a practice amp. It's perfect! I also use it occasionally for small acoustic jams, and it works well for that, too. You do need to place it close to a wall to get the best bass response.

Best portable practice bass combo amp?

Another vote for Phil Jones... I use a Micro 7 for home practice. I don't think anybody makes a bass amp that's smaller physically, but at 50 watts it's still capable of playing along with a Stratocaster and an acoustic guitar, both amplified (as I did yesterday with friends in a garage...

    Generator help needed!

You probably should ground the generator, both for safety reasons and for noise control (in the power line). We played an outdoor gig last summer, and we were getting a lot of line noise through the amps and PA. I pounded a metal bar into the dirt next to the generator, and connected the two...

Quality Quiet Sound, Loud Already Covered

I have a Phil Jones Micro 7 for my "office" amp. It's surprisingly small, but the sound is excellent (provided its located near a wall). It also has the customary aux in and headphone out. It's loud enough to play along with a small acoustic group, but it still sounds good at lower volume...

    Alan Anton

Alan Anton lays down a heavy bass line for Cowboy Junkies. Does anybody know his background, and his choice of instrument and his rig?

What do you wear (typically) to a gig?

A kilt (sometimes). But not when I'm playing bass in my other band.

    Phil Jones Bass Owners' Club

I recently decided that my regular gigging amp was taking up too much space in my practice room, so I decided to give the PJB Micro Seven a try. Given its diminutive speaker size, I was rather skeptical of its ability as a bass amp, but I figured I could always return it if I decided I didn't...

    Fender Rumble Club

We played an outdoor gig on Monday, with one amplified acoustic guitar and two electric guitars. My Jazz bass and my R100 (with the Eminence 2012 speaker) did just fine. It's on the ground just out of sight on the right. It was not run through the PA.

I’m addicted to PJB products! And I like it.

I decided to give the PJB world a cautious try, and just took delivery of a Micro 7. So far, I can say that it seems to be well built, neutral-sounding, and a perfect practice amp. I particularly like having a separate volume control for the AUX input. I haven't yet had a chance to use it on...

    Age and Cabs

This GOF used to have a 1x15 Peavey combo that took two guys to load into and out of my truck. I traded that beast in for a 22-pound Fender that I can lift easily with one hand (and it sounds better, too). I'm a happy man.

second guessing my choice of amp

I recently bought Acoustic's 25-watt 8-inch combo to use as a solo practice amp, which is what it's designed for. We initially were sceptical of its ability to work as a rehearsal amp with my acoustic group (banjo, acoustic guitars, a singer, but no drummer) but to our surprise, it worked quite...

Practice amp for teen: Acoustic B20 / B100, Peavey Microbass / Minx, or something else?

Despite whatever others here might feel about Acoustic, I recently compared a B25C to an Ampeg BA 108 for use as a band practice amp. Both amps have angled backs so they can be set up as monitors, which I like. However, I decided I preferred the tone of the Acoustic, and purchased it new (on...

    Is this misalignment normal?

My MIM Jazz has the same string alignment "issue" where the E string passes over the pickup pole. I too worried a bit about it at first, but since everything sounds fine, I sort of forgot about it. But this post had me thinking about things, so I looked at the basses on Fender's website. If...
