How many bands of EQ do you prefer?

My amp has a 3 band, as does my DI/Preamp. I'm pretty happy with that setup. Although in the 90s I played through a 12 band Trace Elliot. Today that just seems like so much work to me. What about you? What do you use/prefer?

    Can't Decide on a Preamp/DI Pedal

I unfortunately have no input on the two you've asked about. But if you're interested, I use an Ampeg SCR DI, an MXR M80, and a Tech21 SansAmp PBDI. Of the three my preference is the Ampeg. I get an amazing lowend growl and the scramble channel (overdrive) cuts right through. And mine was just...

    MTD CRB4 "Clack!"

In the video below he plays an MTD CRB5 with maple fretboard. I have the CRB4 with rosewood fretboard. But they both share a common problem. Watch the video and listen for the "clack" everytime he changes frets with his left hand. Not only does mine do the same, but it makes it through the...

    Fake ID for 21+ gigs?

My drummer of two years just turned 21 last week. We are never carded as we load in gear, so your situation is new to me. But as stated before, never let anyone pressure you into something illegal. It doesn't sound to me (IMHO YMMV) that your mates don't have your best interest at heart...

    Does Alder or Ash Matter?

I always get a kick out of the smart-alec remarks in replies assuming that every single bassist plays exactly the same music in exactly the same way at exactly the same gigs through exactly the same rigs. Sure the tone gets buried, perhaps, when YOU play where YOU play with whom YOU play. And of...

Professional bassists/musicians who choose to use cheap gear?

I love this thread. Kudos to the OP. It demonstrates what we've all said for a long time; that there are certainly some benefits to expensive production or boutique basses. But for simple playability and tone, you don't have to spend a fortune. I haven't found a sound tech yet that doesn't adore...

    Hartke Math vs. actual math

I'm thinking of buying a Hartke 410XL to match my Hartke LH500. I found one on CL at a reasonable price. One thing that drew me to it was the power rating Hartke gives on the website (see first pic.) 400w @ 8 ohms would be right in the pocket. But the cab itself has something different to say...

    Fired from a band because........

You were driving 35 miles to play with that douche bag? He did you a favor. If you can, play with as many acts as will have you. Go to clubs and open jams. Build that network. There's lots of work with lots of good people for someone with as much dedication and heart as you.

Booked a show, better one came along same night now what?

No judgement from me. Just know that if you cancel the first gig you'll be burning a bridge. Is THAT worth it?

    True Temperament Fretboards

My understanding is that true temperament (or well-temperament) was sought by Bach, and discussed as early as a century before him. The Well-Tempered Clavier - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    True Temperament Fretboards

I've been wondering about that. I don't know enough about this yet, but that's a question I have.

    Are Steinbergers still sought after?

Jimmy Tebeau of The Schlag still plays one. And beautifully no less. And makes a good living doing it.

    True Temperament Fretboards

What do y'all think about true temperament fretboards like the one Henrik Linder plays. Do you think nailing a third or a thirteen or whatever mathematically perfectly is a big deal? Personally I think Linder is such a badass that I don't really notice his intonation. Hahaha! Googling "true...
