are we being ripped off by expensive manufactured basses?

i don't think we are being ripped off. on most expensive instruments the materials are chosen and inspected more carefully, and more material is rejected. those materials are turned into basses that usually have a higher quality of fit and finish. that takes more time, and adds cost. i bet...

EV ELX118 as a bass cab w/ Peavey 450 watt head

the 18" will give you more volume in the low end, and the 4x10 will do better in the mids and treble. the cab that is 4 ohms will sound "louder" to you because it is drawing more power from the amplifier. the lower the impedance is, the harder it makes the amplifier work. i think the 4x10 AND...

    Slipping Truss rod?

i find it takes a few days for the neck to settle. the truss rod moves instantly, but the wood relaxes more slowly. if you keep adjusting it it should stabilize eventually. if it was stripped i do not think you would be able to adjust it at all.

    Tube problem, Fender TBP-1 (12AX7)

are you positive you are not distorting the input ? turn down the volume pot 1/4 - 1/2 way on the bass, then turn up the amp and see if it is still there. usually tubes distort at all frequencies, not just the low end.

does anybody got some info on my old retro bass cab?

i would buy it just from the look of the cabinet ! :) those old isophon speakers go for good money on ebay. you could sell it and buy a modern speaker to put in it.

replacing gallien krueger 15 inch with eminence definimax 4015lf

i think the best way to go is to try it. if you like it, its better. the guys at ampeg said the custom made 2x18" in my avatar "wouldn't work". it worked so well they played thru them for a few days before mailing them to me lol. instrument speakers are music production systems, not music...

    Can I make a small/medium gig with 75Watts?

i said they need to play it the way they learned it. for example i would not expect a heavy metal song to be played with the intensity of a soft ballad, or a ballad to played with thrashing loud drums.

    qsc power amp with eq

i see no problems, you will be fine. i remember plugging my spector right into the power amp input of a solid state ampeg bass head, and i noticed how much more clear it sounded, it made me realize how much garbage and low end mush was being added by the preamp section. thats why i started...

Do Fender 5 strings suck? - Whats your opinion

my answer is yes. i think they suck and i do not like them. i was expecting a 5 string precision, a precision that has 5 strings. but they seem like a totally different bass model. heavier, different feel, neck dive.. if they made a 5 string precision, i would be first in line. i have...

    Can I make a small/medium gig with 75Watts?

i would never expect a drummer to 'bring it down'. i play drums also, and you cannot play the same when switching intensity. they need to play it the way they learned it. i do not think it is fair to ask a player to change because other members equipment is substandard for the job. more/bigger...

    Is an Ampeg 810 Overkill?

if you can hear your self fine with a 4x10 because your drummer plays quiet, then it may be overkill. the only way to know for sure is to try one out.

I can only buy one bass...which should I buy?

hi, im a millionaire and i disagree, 700 is nothing to toy around with. on the other hand, you almost cant go wrong "trying" a brand that has a history of reputation, hit songs, and thousands satisfied customers from barbands to signed national acts. i still advise to try before you buy though.

I can only buy one bass...which should I buy?

the clement might be nice, but i know you (and the soundman and audience) will like the spector for sure...

    SPECTOR® Owners Club

hi. i use a spector into an svt head (1971) at home. i like my setup, and wouldn't change it. a compressor is useful, but it just evens out the loudness of the notes, and gives you some sustain. it doesn't really change the tone radically. the compressor will not allow you more tone sculpting...

    Merits to playing outdoors?

i like playing outdoors. the bass response is weaker because there are no walls for reinforcement, but the bass tone is purer. you will not hear much at 100feet :) especially if the drummer is playing at the same time.
