Guys, a naive question- if you say it sounds like a bass, why not use a 'regular' bass? I mean does this instrument add colors different from those of a bass, and would you see it any useful as an addition to a bass/drums/guitar band?

Agree- owned two attitudes, one 4 and one Fiver. The five is great, distinctive tone and looks.My instructor used it for years though eventually put BB pickups on it. Still sounded amazing on loads of records.
