    Unpopular opinion? Boutique basses are great and worth the money

    I have heard great bassist make a inexpensive bass sound fantastic and mediocre bassist make a very expensive bass sound like c__( no so good) So it's all in the skill of the individual. If I could afford a $$$ bass I would probably buy one. But I'll take my Fender P and do the best I can.

    Funny, It's my BQ250 is my backup power amp as well, I picked it up from Sweetwater on sale. I think $129. Easy to carry in my gig bag. I'm playing thru a Carvin MB12 combo. Carvin went out of the bass amp business in 2017. So if it craps out. I have a backup.

    It seems like TC Electronics is no longer making the BQ250. So, if you were one of the people to pick one up before they disappeared, consider yourself lucky. TC seems to still have the BQ500 available. But I got mine from Sweetwater mid 2019. then the next week they were gone.

    I just bought the BQ250 (07/2019) and the passive/active switch is still backwards. Go Figure. But for under $160 it sounds really good. Great bang for your buck. But you have to keep that thrust comp turned down pretty low so it doesn't squeeze all the tone out of your bass.

    Fender P Bass Player Series

    I bought a Tortoise pick guard for my new Polar white player series P bass from ali express from china and it fit perfectly. Just unscrewed the factory guard and screwed in the aftermarket one. total cost was $9.65 with shipping. Now it looks like a 60's P and by the way it sounds great.

    Did you get rid of the fret buzz? How do you feel about the narrow tall frets compared to the medium/Jumbo frets on the Fender P bass?

    Was the CV P bass the same bad quality as the J? I am thinking about getting one but if it's that bad I don't think so. Also the Fender Player series P isn't getting a good reception either.

    I'm just no sure about the Poplar wood for the body in the CV 60s P. Can anybody give me some input on that?
