Request Good quality transcriptions of anything by Mick Karn / Japan

Glad to see Mick getting all the love. For anyone who's interested, I did a two-part style-study on his playing for Bass Player magazine back in the day: scans attached below. (Not claiming this to be definitive, but maybe useful for a bit of background.)

    Tape for taping together pages?

There's a product called Score Tape that's pretty popular here in Japan (comes in at about $9 on the local Amazon site). Google "BookBuddy score tape" for deets. It might be tricky to order from the States, but if you feel like giving it a spin, drop me a PM and we can fix something out. :bassist:

Does it still count as "bass" if...

…a guitarist uses an octaver (and a midi pickup) to pump out the low end on his bottom two strings? :D

    Submission Teen Town

Great job on nailing that Eb in the first measure of the main theme (beat four). It bugs me that all the “official” Jaco transcription books (and the Real Book) say it's an E natural...

Notation (not tab) standards for specifying left hand positions - high C+

Actually, classical guitar notation uses roman numerals to indicate fret numbers, while arabic numerals inside a circle indicate string numbers. So, to indicate use of a high-C string in standard notation, you would simply use “①” wherever you want something played specifically on the C string —...

Request Help with section of Lettuce "The Flu"

This is actually very cool (see attached PDF). From 2:12, it's a simple two-bar-long repeating phrase in 4/4 (the whole song is in 4/4 up to and including this section). However, from 4:36 (the drum solo) they drop a beat every four bars while repeating the "same" phrase from the 2:12 section...

Submission "Count Bubba's Revenge" by Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band

Transcription (and play-through) of Rick Shaw’s knockout line on Gordon Goodwin’s “Count Bubba’s Revenge.” (Sure, you’re meant to make your own part up from the chords, but learning how the major-league cats put their lines together makes for great practice material.)

    Bass Magazine transcriptions

Thanks for the positive feedback. It’s perhaps not very intuitive, but each issue can also be downloaded as a PDF—look for the download arrow in the top left of the “reading” window. (And yes, we should update that “Transcriptions” link.)

    Bass Magazine transcriptions

As most of you likely know, full-song transcriptions were a permanent fixture in Bass Player magazine before it was bought out by Future Publishing in late 2018. (Upon acquiring the mag, Future switched the mag's operations to the U.K. and stopped running transcriptions.) What you may not...

Request Mick Jagger - Sweet Thing

Here you go. Doug Wimbish killing it on a standard-tuned 5-string (likely his early issue blue Spector).
