Tape for taping together pages?

What's a better tape to tape together pages of scores than masking tape (like 3M #2025)?

Masking tape dries out after a few years and loses its stickum, but worse the adhesive can bleed through general 20-24lb printer paper and leave a tan stripe down the side of the page. I played in four school lab bands, read numerous charts, and don't remember once noticing what tape held them together.

The tape needs to be white, 3/4" to 1" wide, not dry out, and not bleed through. Is this just common knowledge that I missed out on?

I would check out binding tape. It’s designed more for repairing book spines, but will hold 2 pieces of paper just fine.

Do not use duct tape for anything! I hate that crap, and worked in my Dad's HVAC business for many years. It's not even very useful for ductwork.

Check a real full-line music store that serves school music programs.

Reporting back.

Before posting here, had found Scor-Tape for scrapbookers, but it's double-sided. Had searched on youtube, done websearches, etc. for what librarians in music libraries use. Something called 'artist tape' looked promising, but it's made to have very low adhesion and come off easily.

Bookbinder's tape would do the job, but it's cloth based, so is thicker and probably much stronger than what's needed. Don't think duct tape is a good solution, the adhesive tends to ooze out and/or solidify into an unremovable rock-hard mass. I had to take a drafting class once and we just used regular masking tape to hold our drawings down.

The 3M chatline sent me to two phone numbers within 3M. The Construction & Home Improvements division only talks to people who are ordering hundreds of cases of tape. The Stationary & Office helpline guy tried to help, looked hard to find a suitable tape. He finally suggested using something like a clear Magic/Scotch tape, thought that the clear tape with the SuperHold adhesive (50% stronger) was worth a try.

Thanks for the suggestions. Really, I had figured this was probably some common knowledge that I'd missed out on somewhere.

Yeah, I don't know any of those around here any more. There used to be a nice little sheet music store in town, but they disappeared in the early 2000s.

There's a product called Score Tape that's pretty popular here in Japan (comes in at about $9 on the local Amazon site).

Google "BookBuddy score tape" for deets.

gaffer's tape is low residue. photo and film production supply companies have it. should be available in your sector of 3rd rock for sure.

I've been using that SuperHold stuff for a couple years. And I tape both front and back. So far, so good. Better than the matte invisible tape for sure. Never tried the dedicated score tape; that looks like a considerably more expensive option.

True- but they still have it, as an Architect I still use it for taping sketches, etc. In the US Sam Flax or any art store like that will have it.
