But how does it clean in between the perpendicular windings of round wound strings (where i imagine most of the gunk would accumulate ) if the cleaning motion is lateral?

Whoops 60mm... but definitely changed. the neck brace is hard up against the headstock now where as before approx 130mm below. i figure they did this to accommodate longer bodied instruments. anyway im looking for another solution

yep happened to mine and Mono replaced it under warranty BUT they changed the dimensions in 2018 Now the neck brace has been moved further up and its almost at the headstock of my stingray and its about 60cm longer overall. the neck brace position is what p@#$#ss me of the most. ill be looking...

had this problem for years particularly in winter when the air is drier until i found this Invalid Link Removed after initially using daily for a couple of weeks now only use it once every week/2 weeks...no more cracks
