    Poll: There is NO STAGE

Yes - you play where they say, but one of the worst was a school hall where they had a moveabl stage made of cubes - it all looked OK but the cubes were actually made up of fibreglass that was rather too underspecified for the job, and the whole thing wobbled and flexed - what a comedy it was -...

TalkBass heresy: is anyone else not impressed by gigantic gear collections?

Not impressed by masses of gear. I've a great working setup and a spare amp head, a fretted 5, a fretted 4, a fretless 4 and an upright electric plus a tuner pedal and a Sansamp Bass Driver. That's every base (Bass?) covered. Interesting to read and look at other stuff, but it's just bass - you...

What's the best modification you've made?

Fitting a pull-pot switch to my Jazz to give the two pickups in series = P type sound and volume boost.

I love the J bass body design, and the P bass sound. How can I acheive this?

I'm with Honest Johnny on that one - I've done this mod to my jazz - it's not visible so doesn't "spoil" the guitar, and yes, you do get a big fat P bass sound as well as having the original jazz sound at the pull or push of the neck volume knob.

Who Has a Bass No One Else on this Board Has?? (Part 3)

Hey how about my Framus Star - I was given this in the 70's by my mate Tony who was pro through the 60's - it was in bits when he gave it me - the neck was off, all the frets had come out & the headstock binding and one pickup was missing. It had been crudely sprayed white with an aerosol of car...

What Gauge Strings for E to E Six String?

Good morning to you all! Can anyone tell me what I should use to string a bass from E to E - so tuned as a "Regular" guitar, but one octave down on a 34" scale bass? The usual six string sets are, typically 32 to130 - but that is for low B up to C. Thanks, Stompbox.

Looking for a small practice amp

How about the small Roland cube amps - has anyone any experience with them? The cube 30 or even the microcube - just for playing in the house along with radio/TV? Stompbox

    Keep it simple, stupid!

Hey, I thought it was just me. I've got a Fender Jazz - my only bass, but never wanted any other. Now I always thought that the Jazz was better with its two pickups, but recently I did the "S1" mod (where you fit a pull switch in a new potentimeter to put both pickups into a "bogus"...

    Double Bass An adjustable bridge

Hi - I wanted to check we are talking about the same thing here:- I saw a bass recently that had had the bridge sawn in half horizontally, some wood planed off at the cut and then two machine screw rods set into the bottom of the bridge, thumbwheels fitted, then the top of the bridge drilled...

    Double Bass Do splits/cracks matter?

Hey there guys - thanks for all the iput. I still haven't been able to get back to see the bass as the guy who has the music shop is awaay with hs wife on a short holiday for three weeks. I don't believe it is a hand carved bass, but it is a Chinese made Stentorand made (allegedly) from solid...

    Double Bass Do splits/cracks matter?

Thanks for your answers - perhaps I didn't make it clear - the dealer has deliberately bought it as a transit damaged bass - not a split due to shrinkage. Reagrds, Stompbox.

    Double Bass Do splits/cracks matter?

:hmm: I have looked at and read about double basses for some time now. I am an electric bass guitar player in ENorth West England, and I am looking to get a double bass. I have been offered a Stentor 2 bass (3/4 size) which is all of solid/carved wood rather than laminated. It has been...
