Keep it simple, stupid!

J + P = Just Perfect!

Life is complicated enough, why further complicate it with too many knobs and switches and extra strings, not to mention batteries? ;)

I will always be perfectly happy with my passive, 4-string Fender J (Highway One) and Fender P (MIM), although this doesn't necessarily mean these are the only J and P I will ever own. (American Standard J and P would be very satisfying!)

Yo J, that's a sweet lineup, especially the main P w/maple neck. I'm with ya. I have 18 basses and P/J is about as complex as I get. I nearly always end up with my Ibanez Blazers which are the old school P Clones made in Japan. Got 3 of them. Also have a Modulus Basstar P clone, Squier P, Ibanez Roadstar II, etc.....P style all the way.

^^^ this and these please.... that's all I need,... and the "black 'n maple" IS sometimes confusing to play with the 2 pickups and two "stacked" knobs.... ;^)

Y love a simple one or 2 pickup passive Bass.

Now I wish someone would bring out a dead simple 500 watt amp. I'd be more than happy with something like my MarkBass SA450 with no eq section (I have everything set at 12 o'clock pretty well permanently anyway) - maybe just the VLE and VLF knobs.

Hey,
I thought it was just me.
I've got a Fender Jazz - my only bass, but never wanted any other.
Now I always thought that the Jazz was better with its two pickups, but recently I did the "S1" mod (where you fit a pull switch in a new potentimeter to put both pickups into a "bogus" Precision configuration.
Now I use it most of the time in "Precision" mode, so thinking of actually getting one. Its the chunkier neck that puts me off.
Apart from that I'll play through almost any amp, but use a Sansamp Bass Driver between the bass and the amp so I can get most sounds - it really is good, makes things sound "better".
Tried all sorts of other pedals but have got rid all all but the Sans Amp.
Doesn't stop me looking & thinking though!
Off to the North West Guitar Show at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool at the end of the month so who knows.....

As anyone who looks at my gear list can tell, I'm definitely not a "less is more" guy.

I don't think it really matters what you play as long as you are comfortable playing it and the bass makes the sounds you want.

(I don't own a P bass).

I'm completely into modern basses in every sense of the word. I haven't owned a passive bass since my 2nd which was a Squier PJ (nice bass, actually) and the only single pickup bass I ever owned was my 1st, an Ibanez GAXB150 (terrible, never buy one).

Everything since those has had 2 pups, an active pre and modern tone. I could never be satisfied with a simple P bass because I never sound good on them. The only person whose tone I REALLY dig on a P is Pino but who doesn't like his tone? I hadn't even considered getting a J bass until fairly recently (past 6 months maybe). Along with that consideration (and my Sandberg, lol) I've gained whole new appreciation for passive tone. After last nights GTG I've decided that I will get a Sadowsky UV70 at some point and while it may not be the most traditional thing around it's about as close to it as I plan on getting, though I wouldn't mind a Geddy Lee sig.

I was one of those guys who loved over the top basses like 6 string fodera's, erb's and all other sorts of wicked axes, but I must say now that ive got a 4 string P-J its probably all I'll ever need, of course I will buy more down the track though :D

The funny thing is that mine isn't even a genuine Fender, I settled for the SX line which makes me wonder how much more happier I will be once I get my hands on a nice Fender.
