    Audition process pet peeve

Spent a decade in a band that got its start playing a weekly open mic residency where we hosted a long series of players who would bring their best (or only) two or three songs to the event and expect us to back them. Maybe half of the time one or two of us would know a particular request. The...

My bands don't like/don't want to play any of my songs

Thats what I was thinking too. Maybe go back through all your material and look for opportunities to slice and splice where it makes musical sense. That is another reason why many songs are written before the gems emerge. That is why they call them arrangements, no? I heard the bones of at least...

    New birth control!

I remember when I was 13 or so I went to the beach with my parents and a friend who would later go on to become the guitarist in my first-ever band. I had a Walkman with me. In that Walkman was a tape of Permanent Waves. So there we are wandering the boardwalk, checking out some crappy...

What word in Classified ad makes you scroll right past it?

This one’s pretty amusing, too. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Only $1 more than Sweetwater, score!

What word in Classified ad makes you scroll right past it?

I have a guy next town over who insists that all purchases of his (admittedly) impressive gear must be made at his home. Been seeing them for years. But I’ll skip the little torture dungeon for musicians, thanks.

People owning Fender are really only caring FOR MONEY.

    This is sublime. Well done.

    THE ULTIMATE CAT THREAD

Oh, look! Someone sat still for the camera for once. She was found abandoned and brought to me at two weeks of age, and I had to bottle feed and box train her. Definitely not as easy or easygoing as some of my earlier cats, but I like to think they were training me for her. Her predecessor...

    4x10 + 1x15 in ONE cab... Is there such a beast? OR 2x10 + 1x15?

This was my old rig, with the aforementioned 4-ohm Traynor dating to the mid-aughts. I know people like to bag on them but it was a strong, good sounding system. Sadly I got older and it stayed the same.

Fender 8K+ Custom Shop Precision: Yea or Nay

Looks like something you’d buy at a chintzy boardwalk shop.

    Gee...thanks Fender/Squier....for nothing

I’m glad I’ve got my Fender bases covered, guitar and bass. I could eventually use a couple new amps, but mostly my focus now is on PA and recording gear.

How Long Does It Take Before Your Bass Looks “Vintage”???

My oldest and most-played bass, a 2000 Standard Jazz Bass, has corroded pickguard screws, pickup covers worn smooth, worn frets, circular erosion of the chrome plating around the knobs, and a couple dozen dozen scratches and dings on the headstock, neck and body. But after hundreds jobs and...

I committed the mortal sin of Bass...

I have more guitars than basses and I play them more often, especially lately. I play bass in bands. Lacking a band, jobs and set lists for the foreseeable future, I play guitar around the house. There’s no cross contamination here. I’m practicing again, and becoming a better musician. I...
