In addition to no new Squier offerings from Fender this year, it appears the price for a Classic Vibe bass has now gone up from $399 to $429. Looks like that happened over the weekend. Quite disappointing.

Perhaps reading up a bit on "money illusion" will help you feel a little less disappointed. Maybe.

I picked up one of those in July and love it! But do miss fretted sometimes, which is why I’ve been looking. Definitely not a bad idea to look at your options though of course. But the Player Fretless I have is really nice and sounds great.

Actually it happened overnight. Have been eyeing a new Player Jazz and the price was $699 as of last night, this morning it’s $749 most places now. Amazon still has them for the old price for now.

Interesting... I purchased a Player P, last week, mainly because it was really light... got it for $650.00 ($49.99 off)- sales rep said they were $750.00... guess he was ‘seeing ahead’ a week! Glad I got one before the increase...

A gallon of regular has gone up over the past month by 17 cents a gallon, according to AAA. But it's still down 54 cents from a year ago. Could it go up further? Sure. But I would be surprised by a huge increase myself. Production remains significantly more efficient than it was, say, 15 years ago.

Some product categories (guitars and basses are in this group) you can sell anything you can make right now - people (at least the employed ones) are bored and they're buying a LOT of stuff on line. When demand is that inelastic (meaning people will buy anything regardless of price) it's not at all surprising that manufacturers will ask for more. Actually, if you have shareholders (my company is privately held, so we don't have this issue) and you DON'T do that, you'd have a lot to explain to them, as you're legally obligated to make what money you can for them.

My understanding (which could be wrong) is that the markets have been manipulated by other countries selling at a loss so they can drive the US fracking industries to cut back. Once the US output goes down they will bring the prices back up while the US scrambles to gear up again.

Sweetwater charges sales tax. Reverb and eBay do too. If you contact a reverb store direct not only will you get a discount but you will most likely not be charged sales tax. It depends on what state you live. But I have only been charged tax from Sweetwater.

Browse reverb for any store selling your gear then google the store and find a email or call and shop around for the lowest price. Ask if they charge sales tax and what price they can provide since you are buying direct. Nearly all stores will provide the same great customer service and hassle free return policy as Sweetwater. And those stores will actually do a setup, not some check list that is a bs marketing scam.

it’s a buyers market and you owe it to yourself to shop around. That $200 bucks you save is well worth it.
