If the rack tom sounds like a timbale, it's likely that both heads are tuned too high, particularly the bottom one. Never was a fan of black dot heads, though tuned correctly they should do well. The floor tom might need some tape to tone it down a bit, or as suggested above, gating.

Soo... after reading up a bit more, I pulled the trigger on a used Berg HT322. Likely to wind up being far more cabinet than I actually ever need, but it's hardly the first piece of gear I own to fall into that category :D Now to get the rest of the setup, lol.

Out of necessity. I write / record all my own music, so it became a must-have... :) I can get the job done, but I wouldn't call myself a bassist per se.

Any establishment that charges bands to play there deserves to have no acts show up.
