What's so great about Cream's music?

For one thing, if hasn't already been mentioned,a lot of their stuff wasn't recorded to well. I believe it was technology of the time. If you listen to their reunion recording,it comes across so much better. Led Zeppelin blew them away by running with it.

    Benefits of a lighter touch!

Yeah a "professional tone" involves not telling others how to play... I learned the light touch the hard way, by picking up an Alembic in the midst of a jam at a small gig, and noticing that all the notes were fretting out. So if you want to force that technique, set up your strings really...

    advice an slap/funk bass

Yeah, if you cant funk it up with a Jazz bass, you may not have it in you. Maybe some lighter strings may help playablity. Some active pickups may help the sound. Its got to be punchy.

Rat fur!!!! Why do amps have Rat fur?!

I knew a fella who hated it, and he took to a heat gun to remove it. He noticed that it hardened up when he put the heat to it. He did this to all his furry cabs and wanted to do mine. I said nah. It did change the characterists of the fur.

Did Alembic discontinue the Epic body style?

I've had my Epic for around 10 years now. Got it used for $900. Great bass. I had to learn how properly adjust it. It is not set and forget. I like the idea of having one without feeling silly having paid so much for one. You can get the classic Alembic sound with the stock electronics, but you...

    The Jimi Hendrix of Bass

Back in the true age of heavy metal, 1978-1985. Most people who were metal heads didn't like Jimi. The music was never hard enough. This was when you would have never heard Crazy Train at a Baseball game. Those were the times when your parents hated your music. To answer the question who was the...

    fresh pro bassist..needs some advice

A really straight up answer to this is be everywhere and anywhere, all the time. Forget the girlfriend. People are going to have to catch up with you. You've got to "sell your soul to rock and roll". If you get a funny feeling in your gut about this, its not for you. There are other areas to...

    Alembic Value

They do seem to fetch wholesale at the used retail level. I got my Epic "lowly" at @ $900in 2000. You can generally get around 25% off of new retail through the proper dealer channels. But I can tell you this, they are the greatest basses ever made especially when put in the hands of the right...

    John Paul Jones tone

JPJ among others of his era, were not held down by choices. They used what they had, and experimented alot. Its those findings that we use today... the reason why there isn't brand new Acoustic 360s with folded horn 18's at the guitar center

Late 70's Kramer. They were aluminum necked with wood inserts
