    Bass Amp Head Help

Hartke 2500, about $250. 250 watts or 180 watts if you run a single cab. Powerful, versatile, well-made. Well worth the money. Read my review on BassChatUK or just check them out in the online sites. Ted

    I'm a fraud! I don't know what the *@^$ I'm doing!

Never too late to start learning. Get a teacher, all will become clear in time.

A theory question that is going to sound noobish - because it is!

I've had about six months training (if you can call it that) on the bass, but that doesn't mean my advice is either good or bad. The important thing is to take what you've learned and -apply it- so that you are actually making music, even on a simple scale, with other musicians, and not just...

Its Back to Basics for me...

This is not a suggestion for your practice, which sounds fine, but just a note. I think the player that amazed you probably did know a lot of tunes, but he also probably understood quickly the structure of the song being played, that is, he was able to find the degrees of the key in question...

A theory question that is going to sound noobish - because it is!

I think your trouble is exactly the opposite of what you stated: Covering songs, and playing with other musicians will be a -lot- more valuable to you than sitting with your own compositions and applying theory to them. Your compositions may be great, I'm not saying they aren't ... but all the...

How to Make A Career as a Luthier?

I built a mandolin with a friend who had made his living as a luthier - just scraping by - in Texas for eight years. I later made a 12-string guitar with William Cumpiano, whose web site is here: http://www.cumpiano.com/ I'd suggest you go to the site and read it - all of it, including the...

    Modes are driving me crazy

I am fairly new to bass; converted from guitar. And like a lot of middling guitar players, I never learned music theory. But now I am studying hard, practicing daily, and trying to learn how to get around on the bass with some imagination - and out of the 1-3-5 rut. Everything I read about...

    Fender has gone wild!

Interesting to me is that Squier has come out with three new models, which sell for around $300 apiece, a Jazz, a '54 P-bass and a 60s P-bass. Here is a fair and disinterested demonstration/comparison done by Ed Friedland: I got my Japanese Fender at a very good price and I hope it...

    bass care?

I haven't measured it, but I don't think low-level humidity is a big problem here. We have two small humidifiers in the apartment that I keep running all winter, and the place heats up in a controlled way. Thanks to everyone for their comments.

    bass care?

I've got two acoustic guitars and a mandolin and I know how to take care of them (especially in winter) but I'm new to the bass. It's a solidbody, in a semi-hardshell Gator case. Does a solidbody instrument require anything special? I keep little humidifiers in the acoustic instruments'...
