Try it with the drive set about noon, that should boost the level of the effect some, and shouldnt produce much in the way of distortion. The drive is your main volume level on this pedal. Set the cutoff to taste, mines usually around 250 (9 oclock) but it all depends on your playing style...

Personal favorite effect for doom is ring mod, very evil sounding! Great for crazy distorted leads, or for cleaner closer to tremolo sounds in clean/droning parts.

What are your settings? I have almost the opposite issue with mine, I use it mainly in quiet parts, and occasionally hit a little to hard and it spikes in volume. If your only getting lost in the mix when its on, perhaps you need to turn the drive up? That should make the effect as a whole...
