PYPB 44: ...like Tetris with boxes, wires and cables

Decided to refresh my board with a view to removing the MulitFX that I was hardly using in favour of dedicated pedals. Luckily this was just in time for the release of the new version of the Messenger which gets me high/low pass filters and will be my DI and general board EQ. The Sidekick...

    Broughton Audio Super Thread

The pedals have all arrived so the refresh is done. The Messenger is on utility duty, being the DI and general board EQ so I can just leave the SV-Pre to do it job. Picked up the tip of trying the compressor after the Pre from this thread and it does work really well so that's probably where...

I did too! Glad I checked what was coming up last week after deciding I wanted to refresh my board. The Messenger is perfect fit for what I have in mind.

    Tuner pedal vs clamp on

There's some bias in those kind of threads in that the advantage of clip on is that it's not a pedal but if you're talk in terms of using pedals then a tuner in a no brainer. That said I don't use clip ons, anywhere I wouldn't be using my pedal board is somewhere I can use my phone.

    DI/Cabinet emulation question.

Had the first outing with the the Joyo Cab Box this weekend. I'd spent some time loading various IRs during the week and I have to say the bass cab sims are actually pretty damn good comparatively. The Big Box from RedWire are good but it's far too easy to get lost in the weeds with all the...

    DI/Cabinet emulation question.

Depends on the context. For the kind of gigs I play more than 20 minutes starts to push it. There's often a lot of bands on and people may not know, or like, all of them. There's also some pressure on promoters to start gigs as late as possible for a given finish and 15 minutes tends to price in...

Trying to get a good LIVE show tone.

So first things first, you're going to sound diffrent in diffrent rooms. Second things second you're going to sound diffrent in context with your band all of whom are going to sound diffrent in diffrent rooms. As such there's a limit to what you can do without being in the room and working with...

    DI/Cabinet emulation question.

It's not a fun way to start a gig but you get used to it. It's also why I just try to have a nice but workable pre-stage tone that gets sent to FOH to either reinforce or step all over. On that front I'm going to be trying out a cab sim live for the first time this weekend, going to be...

    DI/Cabinet emulation question.

I mean that's just not something a lot of us can do. Even if we had some one we're lucky to get more than a line-check during a 15 minute change over.

    Question about Torpedo C.A.B. M

A cab sim on it's own is unlikely to help then. Sounds more like you're looking for a Ampeg style pre-amp and the BDDI isn't doing it for you. In which case I'd suggest trying a diffrent pre-amp before buying a cab sim. Just in terms of what I've used there's the Ampeg SCR-DI pedal, which I...

    Question about Torpedo C.A.B. M

The Torpedo CAB is a power-amp and cab simulator. Idea being you put it after a pre-amp to get the sound of full rig through a mic'd up cab without actually having to mic up a cab. The CAB in particular is designed around actually sitting in between your head and your cab for example which can...

    Sound Check

One of our songs that covers as much ground sound wise as possible. We're somewhat eclectic so it might take a couple to cover everything. But if we've got time it's important to let the sound tech get an idea of how diffrent diffrent songs can be. I think it should ideally be something in your...

The Official Short Scale Bass Club -- Part 4

Have now done a few gigs with the Junior Jet. While it's been odd to get use to the smaller size and weight in terms of my "put on a show" muscle memory I've not had the same issues in terms of actually playing. If anything it being much more comfortable for the size of my hands has made my...

To those who have downsized their rig

I mainly played in punk bands with loud drummers but never really "upsized" in the first place. I've found a lot of the advice regarding what is required to be a bit overkill. I got a GK MB500 and a GK Neo 112 with the expectation of adding a second 112 at some point. But other than one or two...

    Pedaltrain Jr. aftermarket case?

Anyone know any soft case other than the mono? Mine have served me well for general gigs for years but is getting a bit roughed up.
