Tone "volume" to change to which degree a tone knob cuts whatever frequency

Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else in the boiling pot of human knowledge but i just have no idea what to search for. To my understanding (and please correct me if Im wrong) a traditional passive tone knob works by cutting frequencies at whatever level you set the tone knob at. This...

I'm interested in taking a cruise contract over the summer since my gigs die down around then (summer is during christmas in new zealand) and my partner is going on a trip herself so ill be stuck at home twiddling my thumbs and practising and w***ing. I'm particularly interested in making as...

my mikro 5 string is on the way!

Khutch I'd be really interested to see how you get on with 5ths tuning on a short scale. I'm a cellist myself and have been playing my backup bass in cgda for a little while now. The tone is nice and clear on the 34" scale but I'd really like to be able to play it well enough so that it's not...

Does the life of your battery affect the passive channel?

Cause I was scared I might blow up the universe. Thanks for your quick reply though! That's what I would have thought but I just wanted a second opinion from a more trustworthy source than the people who told me that.

Does the life of your battery affect the passive channel?

Apologies if this has been asked before and I haven't found the thread yet. I have a MTD kingston 5 string and it has the usual active preamp with bass mid and treble controls and it has an active/passive switch in the volume knob. I basically never ever feel the need to use the active channel...

Double Bass Advantages of three string bass?

Just clearing something up for those who have misinterpreted, when I said "lighter top" I didn't mean lighter for carrying it around, I meant it would have a lighter top (sound board) or at least a theoretical bass could have a lighter top and less tension on the board giving it comparatively...

Double Bass Advantages of three string bass?

Hi everyone, I have no idea about the feasibility of acquiring a three stringed bass but I was just wondering about any advantages a three stringed bass might have over a 4, particularly if tuned in fifths (GDA) with an extension to a low Eb on the G. The main advantage I had in mind was...

Double Bass Do the flames make it go faster?

Hi everyone, I'm looking at getting a christopher 403 "Prominence" model and I was wondering what the difference is between the 400 series and the 500 series. Is it just that the wood looks heaps better? Does the flame on flame-maple actually do anything for the sound or is it just chosen...

Double Bass Tone difference between Extended E and B (solo)

Hi guys, Does anybody tune their bass C(ext.), B, E, A ?? I'm keen to try it out so I get a much sweeter tone up on the higher strings. Primarily for arco but I imagine it can't hurt the pizz sound either. I like the idea of having a fifth between the lowest and second lowest strings and I...

Double Bass Pizzing on orchestral strings. Help me please?

I know there are some passionate opinions out there on strings and arco vs pizz vs hybrid stuff but I was just curious to know why people think pizzing on strings that are designed for arco work is so bad. Is it because of the sound through a pickup specifically or actually the sound of the...

Double Bass Edgar Meyer's Italian Bass

Thanks! I've been trying to figure out how he gets such a good sound with pizz and arco and the more I find out about his setup the less it makes sense :hmm: I've heard a lot about people not going for spiros because their arco sound isn't very appealing but Meyer seems to make it happen.

Double Bass Edgar Meyer's Italian Bass

Is it quite smaller then [EDIT: than*] most 3/4 size basses or is he just huge? And I'm curious about his tuning. Is it E(c ext.), B, E, A ??
