    strap knob stripped

A more "permanent" method would be to drill out the hole and glue a 1/8" hardwood dowel into the hole, then when the glue dries, drill a small pilot hole into the dowel for the screw.

    Frustration.

Welcome to the bass-ics!!!:D You're just getting started - it's going to take time and practice to get the Brain => Hand coordination down! You're going to feel like a spazz for awhile, but you;ll get it! ;) Keep working with simple songs to start with. Get used to playing from charts...

    Dry Fingers?

I use Fast Fret. It's like a stick with a liquid impregnated onto the stick that you rub on your fretboard and strings. I also rub it on the back of my neck and on my left fingertips as well. It helps keep the fingerboard slippery and keeps your fingers from sticking. It also has the extra...

Is it really bad form to use your E string to anchor your thumb?

I tend to anchor on the B-string and "float" my fingers to whatever string I happen to be playing. I also mute with all my fingers, particularly on softer parts, and sometimes with my palm. It's something that I'm not always conscious of, I do it without thinking about it. Sometimes I do...

The small matter of getting paid.

+1 to keeping it all above-board. If you consider yourself a professional, act like a professional in all aspects of the business, including your income-and-expense reporting.;) Our band is a LLC, and our lead singer is the President. At the end of the year, she sends out 1099's to us (the...

    HELP DRUMMER SPEEDS UP!

We had this issue with our new drummer when he joined a few months back. He has tons of experience, but came from a band that played everything way too fast. To his credit, he has worked very hard at correcting the situation. Here's what we did: He got a small programmable metronome with a...

    Quitting Mid Gig

Had it done to me 25 years ago, although it was actually after the gig but mid-tour (we had to play the following night). Our bass player walked out on us (I was a guitard at the time :)) after a gig. Actually, I shoulda thanked him, after all that's how I became a bassplayer myself! The rest...

Going from pick to fingerstyle in the same song

I always cram a pick in the gap between my bridge pickup and the pickup ring (on the top side) where I can grab it quick if I need it. It goes in there far enough to where I don't accidentally knock it out when I'm fingering, but can still get at it when I need it. TJ

    Method of Striking the Strings

Fingers 80% of the time. On the hardcore stuff I use a pick, and on the funk/disco stuff, I slap/pop. TJ

Am I too old and fat?

I turn 52 this week. I just joined a new band about three months ago after not gigging for almost ten years. We gig out an average of six nights a month, and I'm having a blast! In anticipation of the new gig, I started working out again and dropped twenty pounds in the past two months or so...

Why do bass players choose to copy rather than create their own voice?

I like to think that my playing style is "original" in the sense that no other bassist plays exactly like me, even though my style is really an amalgam of the playing styles of a myriad other bassists that I have listened to/studied under/revered over the years. When I'm playing, I do not...
