I got Bartolini MK4CBC sets on my Ibanez SR500 (installed with 500k blend, no vol/tone/preamp). I use it mostly on coil split mode and it sounds awesome even without an amp. It's definitely step up from MK1's which came as a stock on my bass.

Ground the tone pot to volume ground.

Is the string volume balanced in MK4CBC? A and D strings are too quiet compared to E and G string on MK1 pickups.

It'll work. I got mine to drop C with 55-115 gauge strings no problem.

Hey, if possible, can you upload some dry sound clips of MK4 passive at flat eq? (just the pickup with no amp, DI boxes, and effects) Before I got my MK1 to passive, I was considering on upgrading to MK4. Anyway, I'm still curious of the difference that a lot of people mentions here in the forum.

Before selling that bass, try the bass with preamp bypassed. Just pull out the wire coming from the blend pot and wire coming from the volume pot (not the ground wire) and hook them up together. Takes like 5 min or less without soldering and it's completely reversible.

Oh, maurilio is right. I didn't see that the pickups are going into the preamp first then goes through the balancer. That's not a good sign... Your only choice for getting active/passive here will be buying a new preamp that has the bypass switch. jc522's circuit seems sound since his pickups...

No thank you, I think I'm gonna get a pair of MK4 and pull out the stock preamp and go completely passive. Kinda wished that I hear the sound of MK4 before doing this but oh well...

Anyone have an audio clip of these pickups. I want to hear the difference between them so I can decide if I should upgrade my MK1 pickup or not.
