Double Bass Combo Amp for Upright

I have been very happy with my GK MB112 (I also have the extension cab MBP112). Since I added an MXR Thump preamp it's a killer sound.

Can someone tell me about this double bass and it's value?

Way overpriced for a fully laminated bass, which it clearly is.. Mid century at best, no way is this bass 1812. Labels in basses like this are not to be taken literally, and if someone in a music shop is attempting to represent it that way they clearly have no idea what they are talking about...

    NBD: '75 Fender Musicmaster

Very cool! My first bass rig was a 76 Musicmaster and a 76 Bassman 10. I really wish I had both of those....

    Stanley Clarke: Lopsy Lu

Exactly my point. It was recorded in 1974, so expecting it to sound like something recorded now is not realistic and limits what you will be able to listen to. I love the rawness of older recordings, knowing that it was likely a live performance, as opposed to something perfect and massaged...

    Stanley Clarke: Lopsy Lu

Your listening list must not very long if you are limiting yourself like that! The playing on this album was world-class.

Double Bass Kay experts please chime in

A colleague of mine had it after his father passed. His father bought it new in 1937. I bought it 7 years ago and love it. Had to have the neck bolted back in and replace the fingerboard, but other than that it is pristine. Great bass!

Thanks! It was well cared for by it's previous one(!) owner. They are D'Addario Zyex. Took them awhile to break in but they thump now.

I met Warren Haynes and Kevin Scott

I played in the orchestra for The Warren Haynes Band this past weekend in Dayton and Cincinnati. I had a chance to speak with both Warren and his bass player, Kevin Scott. Both are super nice guys, really down to earth and gracious. And they are monsters to boot. If you haven't seen them, go!

    "I really like your bass!"

Been there. I am an orchestral player and play on an 1820 Thomas Kennedy. The number of times people have said "that bass sounds great" is beyond count. I have heard this bass sound terrible in less than capable hands. The player is a huge portion of the sound that comes out of an...
