    To Me, Fender Is.......

... the standard (or starting point). After playing a bunch of stuff, Fender is basically where you want to start for a great instrument. Then you can try luthiers, variations etc. But I think every bass / guitar player NEEDS at least one fender.

    Anybody stopped using their Sansamp?

I don't use my VT bass often (battery died, don't feel compelled to replace it) I play in an svt 3, and when I play it loud enough, it has its own overdrive, making any preamp less useful. IDK, I kind of like the minimal approach to tone. Jazz->amp = good enough for me 97% of the time

Ampeg SVT Classic or Ampeg PF500, Have you compared/decided?

At rehearsal volumes, I think the PF may sound better, but in a medium + sized gig, SVT will be consistent and, well its an SVT. You know it will perform. just my 2 cents, I'm stuck with a 3pro for now, still love it (when I have fresh strings)

SVT 3 Pro (05) NO SOUND

Yeah, so cable didn't fix it either :/ I don't want some chump at a guitar store to tell me I need to replace the tubes, and charge me 400 bucks for 'service'. Ugh

SVT 3 Pro (05) NO SOUND

Thanks guys. Yeah, Im gonna go buy a new speak-on cable today. The cable might not be 'broken' but the plastic sleeve is. Im thinking a tube, because they are 6 years old, and apparently this amp was roughed around by the previous owner (ie dropped a few times)

SVT 3 Pro (05) NO SOUND

ALright, so last night I went to go play some bass like I normally do. It turns on normally, still recieves input (looking at peak light). The fan sounded a little weaker, but there was a dead buzzing sound, which was unaffected by any volume or gain controls. I tried different instrument...

SMOKE JUST CAME FROM MY SVT!

Typical Ampegs. They're useless, suck, and they don't even sound good. Ill take it off your hands for 50 bucks, seeing how its probably no good anymore :P EDIT: Sorry, nothing constructive to say :3 I have no idea what might be wrong, sorry again,

    How is Cliff Burton overrated?

I think it is just a backlash to the people who say he is the best bass player, ever. It is ridiculous. Everyone has their inspirations, but to say the bassist you like is the best, is absurd. Cliff was great at what he did, but he was a little sloppy. Thats just my opinion.

    Strings

Sound awesome and bright, but die after a week or two of playing. I love them, especially for super clean and tight recordings w/ pick.

    Does Justin Chancellor use fingers?

Both. Mostly pick though. I know he plays 10,000 days with fingers (classic style finger picking)

    Jason Newsted using flatwounds?

Everyone here who has seen the Cunning Stunts DVD has most likely wondered how Jason got the blissful tone during his Bass solo. Well, I have come to the conclusion that he used flatwound strings on his Sadowsky 4 string bass. Only recently, have I played the piece with flatwounds to find how...
