    I had a teacher who played a bow with a frog between the sizes of a french and german bow. He referred to it as an "italian" bow. Has anyone else heard of this? He's the only person who I've heard use this term.

    It doesn't, as long as you get a mechanical license for the song you plan to cover. The licenses are compulsory (meaning the publisher must grant it to you) but you do have to pay a fee based on how many copies you distribute.
