    Ampeg SVP-Pro Schematic Tutorial

Sure, V4 should be a 12au7 rather than a 12ax7. In my experience, the key to taming the hiss with this preamp is to set the Master knob to at least 3 o' clock (= almost maxed out) and control your volume elsewhere, for example, at the power amp. There is an extra gain stage (V5) behind the...

    Ampeg SVP-Pro Schematic Tutorial

From left to right, I'd call them V1 - V5. This is my understanding of their use: V1 = Initial gain / DI V2 = Bass / Treble V3 = Midrange V4 = Drive V5 = Master V4 is 12au7, the others are 12ax7. V1 affects your tone the most. If you don't use the Drive control, then V4...

Bag End Stack in the House!

I don't know the AMP BH-250 head, but I do have an Eden WT-330 head that's identical to the WT-405 except the power rating of the latter is upgraded a bit. I find the EQ possibilities of the Eden head too restrictive: the mid control is switchable between 550 Hz and 2.2 kHz, but I often found...

Bag End Stack in the House!

Speaking from experience, one D12 alone can get quite loud already. Also, it can handle a lot of power, and, say, a 300W @ 4 Ohm amp will not give you the full potential of the cab. If you're happy with the sound of your current head, just want some more headroom, why not buy a stereo power...

Bag End Stack in the House!

I noticed this thread only recently. The emphasis seems to be mostly on S15 variants and a few Q10s, so I thought I'd post a few pics of D12 and D10's for a change. +1 on the megathread, Bag End rocks! Happy 2008 y'all!

Bag End Stack in the House!

Ah, I see. The Tri210 must be a completely different type of cab, isn't it?

What was it that you didn't like about that D12X-D? Just curious...

Bag End Stack in the House!

Although I have briefly played with one S15-D I didn't compare it side by side with the D12. I'd be very interested to hear the comments in case anyone did. That's interesting indeed. There is no mention of 12" drivers with coax anywhere on their website. I completely agree with you on...

Bag End Stack in the House!

On paper, a D12 is only 10% heavier and only marginally larger than a D10BX. However, it seems that the handles are in the wrong spot on just about all of the Bag End cabs I tried. As you can see on the pics, the handles on the D12 are mounted quite high. As a result, if you lift that cab by...

Bag End Stack in the House!

Here are a few more pics of the D10 and D12 cabs. This is what I use most often: a single D10X-D. Loud enough for many occasions, easily transportable. Bass and 4U rack are shown so you can see how compact this really is. Link Removed The D12-C alone is about as compact as the D10X-D...

Bag End Stack in the House!

I have indeed played that combination a few times, but usually I'm just lazy and I'll use either a D10X-D or a D12-C alone. A D12 is powerful enough to fill any room by itself-- adding a single D10 does seem to make it any louder. That said, I think D10's sound best close up whereas D12's...

Bag End Stack in the House!

I own a D12-C (black carpet), which is an awesome cab indeed. It was the first Bag End cab I bought, some five years ago, replacing a Peavey 1x15 (Scorpion-Plus). The D12 sounded so much better, both deeper and more articulate than the Peavey. I am driving the D12 from one side of a Chevin...

    Ampeg SVP-Pro Schematic Tutorial

Thank you for explaining it. With that tube in it would not let me increase the Master past 3 o'clock because of massive distortion. With a 12AX7 it stays clean with the Master maxed out.

You're probably fine, checkout http://thetubestore.com/gainfactor.html With a 12AX7 in V4, the drive control won't function properly (it has too much gain)

It kinda worked. The sound was okay, but the output level was at least 10dB, maybe more, down compared to having an 12AX7 in there. I was expecting that already, but I was curious and gave it a try.
