Bag End Stack in the House!

Does anyone know if BE is still making the S-12 with the coax speaker?

it can be special ordered by just about any dealer. Lots of models aren't listed on the website... they are painfully slow on updates. I've inquired about assisting them on updates (my link and picture on the artist page is over a year overdue at this point) and the owner of the company replied that they are working on stuff and will get to it eventually.

I'll revive this thread by stating the Shuttle 6.0 on top of a BE S15-D stack is quite the killer combo.

Had the oppotunity to play a couple of outdoor gigs with my new Shuttle and I'm impressed. So much great tone out of a little box! Seems to work well with the BE S15's. Better than my GK 1001RBII, IMO. I particularly like the prametric mid section.

Thanks (or curses! :D) to MV for info on the BE's and the Shuttle!

I have a question for the BE clan...

I've got an opportunity to join a working cover band doing some louder rock tunes
(Incubus, 311, Mudvayne, RHCP, RATM/Audioslave/Soundgarden, Porcupine Tree, etc)...

I LOVE my AMP BH-250 sitting on a D12 but think I'll need a little more (the band has a pair of 1/2 stack guitarists).

I'm definitely going to go for a second D12 to stack with my current one. I think a vertical stack of 4x12" Bagends with be more than enough for anything to come. The problem is it'll be either a 2 ohm or an 8 ohm load (or 4 ohm stereo). I'd like to hit each cab with about 300 watts RMS AND I'd like the head to be 18" wide or less.

I'm looking at Eden's stuff... the WT-405 looks good since it has a similar EQ to my current head. Anybody have any suggestions?

Here is my current head

No I haven't ventured out into the world with my bass and cab to start testing heads. I'm gathering a list of prospects first :)

That system would get PLENTY loud, IMO!!!
I bet it would sound great.

I'm sure the 600+ watts at 2 ohms will be perfect. I just hope the tone stack is somewhat similar to the BH-250.... simple 3 band EQ, compressor, etc.

o 0...mudvayne tunes...love that band!

I like a few select tunes... the band currently does "Happy?" and "Not Falling" is on the learn list. I like both of those :bassist:

Speaking from experience, one D12 alone can get quite loud already. Also, it can handle a lot of power, and, say, a 300W @ 4 Ohm amp will not give you the full potential of the cab. If you're happy with the sound of your current head, just want some more headroom, why not buy a stereo power amp that can deliver something like 600 - 800 Watts per channel? Driving each D12 from its own channel will also yield a tighter sound than running them in parallel @ 2 Ohms.

My personal setup is an Ampeg SVP into a Chevin A1000 power amp into one D12 and one D10-X (2x 600W @ 4 Ohm), but usually I need only bring one cab.

James-
I'm not sure how you feel about GK stuff, but a GK head with Bag End cabs is my all time favorite combination.

I don't know the AMP BH-250 head, but I do have an Eden WT-330 head that's identical to the WT-405 except the power rating of the latter is upgraded a bit. I find the EQ possibilities of the Eden head too restrictive: the mid control is switchable between 550 Hz and 2.2 kHz, but I often found myself in need of something in between. The BE cabs are quite bright, sometimes making me want to cut a few dB around 1 kHz.

FYI: I've moved this to it's own thread :)

well also speaking from experience, knowing how loud my S12+S15 stack was in all the situations I had it in in the 90s... my current 250 watt @ 4ohm head (same make and model I gigged with my BE stack) is plenty to give me the 'full potential' of the cab(s). I don't buy into that mega watts game... I've owned 1000+ watt racks down to 100 watt combos, played low Bs through them all and I see no need to push more than 100 to 200 watts per driver. I know some swear by it, but in my 28 years playing I've tried them all and I don't need it.

A racked poweramp is much wider than the 18" width I'm wanting to stay under. Right now an AI Focus 1RIII and the Eden WT-405 are my 2 top choices to try out.

it's the little brother to the AMP BH-420 which became the Gibson BH440 and finally the Thunderfunk line. My tone is more a combo of my basses, my effects and my cab... I'd be happy with a powered speaker or poweramp (non racked and less than 18" wide) I think... too bad AI killed the Focus SA. As far as my current (and past) search... I like / prefer a good sounding head with a simple EQ. If I can boost or cut the lows for a boomy room and tweak the top to balance that out, I'm golden.

as per my other thread... I A/Bed a GK and Hartke head with my first generation Schroeder cab and the Hartke blew it away to my ears.

Rumor has it you've sat on the thought of a Thunderfunk also, which is a great (and really loud) combination with the BE, and which I'd be happy to help out with ;).

which model and what's the output @ 8ohms? I won't push on at 2 ohms.

Thanks for all the replies everyone... it's all a big help :bassist:

James, I had a WT-390 head a while back, and played that into my S15 stack. It's just great. The bass contour button really worked well with the S15s.

If I hadn't sold the Eden CXC110/CX110 stack, I'd still be playing the WT-390 into the S15s. Highly recommended combination. I know you're playing non-S15 BE cabs, but that WT-405 is the stuff.

And then, there's the Genz Shuttle 6.0. As Bruce can attest, that head with the S15 stack is mighty and fine and mighty fine. (Thanks for the nod, Bruce!)
Had you thought about one of those, James?
