What was your 1st music shop hangout?

In Salem, Oregon, we had a few music stores, but locally-owned Weathers Music was THE place for top shelf equipment. Started going on there with my mother (local high school choral director) in about 1967. I bought my very first axe there. 1973 Gibson EB-0. Should have never sold it. Weathers...

Tiny Head, Same Big Speaker Cabs: What's the Point?

Lots of good points of view here. Nearly all valid for each individual. For me, I'm 61. My old SVT blue line head was just not making my back very happy. I miss it terribly, but my back is much happier. For what we do, my MarkBass F1 amp is fine. 4x10 cabs are 20 lbs, and I can still do that...

    Over 60 Players Club?

Not sure if there is such a club, and I'm not a frequent flyer here, but after turning 60 this past May and still performing live once or twice a month until 2:00 AM each time, I think 60+ is something to be proud of! (Plus we got the good music!) Anyone else out there on the same stage...

    Upgrading pickups on cheap basses?

I have owned my American Jazz in my pic since 2001 until this summer, when I finally sold it. I wanted to go five but am too damn cheap to spring for the Fender so I got a Squire for $200. First thing I did was put in an Audere preamp and it sounds just as good as the 'ol four string! New...

is it okay to not play over the pickup

We play "The Way" by Fastball. Of course the studio creates the tinny AM radio sound at the first of the recording. We try to duplicate that live, where I must play as close to the bridge as I can with my fingernail as a temporary pick. Works and sounds well! Second verse it's all normal again...

Do you fart a lot when you play?

Yup, I do! It's fine though. Mine smell like roses! Luckily, the drummer farts more, especially during rehearsal. And he doesn't hide it. No on can say much, cuz they all fart, too, just not a often. Pressure's off now.

Who was the player(s) that made you want to play bass?

Chris Squire, Greg Lake and Roger McLachlan.

SOLD Aphex 204 Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom

FS: Aphex 204 Aural Exciter and Optical Big Bottom (S/N 22567) This is a single-pace rack, two channel unit in excellent condition. I used this rack effect for my bass guitar rehearsal setup to give it more presence and 'meat'. Used since a week for about three years. Tone was awesome even...

    Oregon Bassist's Club!

Haven't logged in in a very long time! Hope everyone is well. The Boomers are still going strong! Classified Extra: Scaling back on my gear, mostly because my back says so. I sold my Ampeg SVT blue line last year, begrudgingly, but traded that cash in for a nice MarkBass 2x10. Works great in my...

    Oregon Bassist's Club!

Way cool effort, rfclef! Wish I could go. Gonna be standing in the Owyhee river with a fly rod in my hand that day. The Boomers are in Monmouth the following week in the park. Maybe we can help drum up some funds for her there, also.

Ampeg SVT Blueline Club, 68 to early 70's.

You know this stuff better than I. Could was be an '05. Is there a tell-tale S/N list I can check? I guess it really doesn't matter much to me (someone should use that sentence in a song...). I just plug the thing in, put in my in-ears, turn around and grin and the faces that looked like they...

Ampeg SVT Blueline Club, 68 to early 70's.

I got it from TB-er about 18 months ago. I think he said it was a '98. Hell, I may have been pulling up my socks at the time. In any case, I ran it up to Portland, and fist-full of dollars later this thing just shakes the stage! Local guy here in Salem won't touch them. He says they are "crap"...

Been lurking in the back row for a couple days getting to know this thread, but can't get too far w/o saying congrats to adam. Way cool, man. So glad to hear everyone is doing well. My youngest is just ready to turn 18. I so remember the days you are experiencing. Be the best dad. It has paid...
