Old dudes in band with young dudes.

I think it is a horrible idea. Unless they are family or something. I wouldn't trust my 16 year old kids with a 35 yo stranger. And why would you want to be in a band with teens, you exclude about 90 percent of your potential venues.

It's been a few months since istarted this thread, but I changed my mind and decided to keep the strat as is and start this project from scratch. Here's the details, have most of the parts but haven't yet started construction. -Maple neck and fretboard. Mighty Mite compound radius 9.5-12"...

What type of wood is this?

Looks like walnut to me as well. What is the deal with the double battery? I've never seen more than one battery for active electronics before.

need help building a new bass for giging.

I have a Lakeland 55-02 and I love how light it is. Lighter than my jazz for sure even though it's a5 string. Not sure how they do that. I built a guitar from parts and the main downside is their isn't much resale compared to, say, just buying used branded guitar/bass.

    4, 5 -Or- 6 String?

I got a 5 string Lakland 55-02 and love it. To me it's the perfect balance. Wider neck but not to wide. Still has the same string spacing at the bridge as my 4 string j. When you get to 6 strings you really have to start compromising. Plus on a 4 I'm frequently drop d tuning but rarely...

Yes, definitely learning without spending a lot of money :) Bought a burled maple top for under $30 w/ shipping. I was planning on keeping the tremolo bridge so having that routed out should be Ok. If I use the pickup rings then that would allow me to install the pickups from the top? That...

Thanks for the advice! I guess I'll probably switch the 5 way switch for a proper 3 way switch. Right now it is soldered to only use 3 of the 5. :) As for trimming the body I know a guy who is a hobbyist carpenter who does furniture and stuff. I'll see if I can borrow his band saw. Thanks again!

Thanks Cholis! I appreciate the input. Yes, it will be dual chrome humbuckers going in. Any advantage to using pickup rings over just screwing into the top? What thickness top do you usually use - would 3/8ths or 5/16ths be adequate for a flat top (not carved)? Here's a picture of the...

Hi everyone, I have an old project I finished a few years ago and was thinking of changing things up on it. Its a body made from ash (Strat style) cherryburst finish that I bolted together with a pre-made ebony neck paired with some chrome Gibson LP stock pickups and floating tremolo bridge...

Haha, that is true. Here are some links to flickr, I'll upload them to my website and share actual pictures tonight. Also curious if anyone who has this bass can share their favorite pickup settings. Thanks! Scott http://www.flickr.com/photos/62999119@N05/8538508211/...
