    Multipurpose Combo

Thanks for pointing that out! It took a careful second look to see that EFF1 was Chorus and EFF2 was Reverb. I had assumed at first glance that these were controls for external FX loops. Now I want one. I like a just a touch of reverb for electric bass, a bit more for keyboards, and more...

    Multipurpose Combo

Looks like an ideal rig for your planned deployment! Having two effects loops is a nice bonus. If it had built-in reverb, I'd look into getting one myself. I've been known to run a Jazz Bass and Stratocaster simultaneously thru a Bandmaster Reverb head into a compact 2-way 15" cab. I've...

    Tape deck for home recording?

I just checked, and National Audio Company has no Type II cassettes currently on offer. The Tascam Portastudio 424 and most other multitrack equipment requires Type II tape. Tascam recently did a run of Type II cassettes, but they are not cheap. If the OP isn't interested in multitrack...

    Tape deck for home recording?

I have four-track and stereo cassette equipment, and respectfully recommend that you instead get a digital recorder, or at least repurpose an old laptop or computer with some easy-to-use audio editing software for recording purposes. The results will be digital-quality, and much more easily...

What kind of strings do you use?

Running La Bella 750N tapewounds on my J for now. Tension is a bit light for my taste; will soon try the 760N.

    Best overall jazz bass

25 or so years ago, I rehearsed several times on a friend's refrigerator-white Mexican Fender Squier Jazz Bass, and it remains the best J-bass I've ever laid my hands on. I'd love to own one just like it.

Suggestions for a 10"/12" low sensitivity full range woofer for sealed cabinets

I'd just use an attenuator between the tube head and the cabinet. Crank the amp up, button down the attenuator, and you're in overdrive at any desired volume.

    Using Reverb..why aren't you?

Pretty much the same here. Just a touch of reverb on bass for air, midrange bloom, and a smoother legato. It's not an effect as much as it is an enhancement. On keys...reverb cranked, Leslie on slow.

    Peavey Mark VIII XP cleanup/cleanout

Good to know--I'll take 'er in to the shop if the pots need attention. Fortunately, none of the pots are scratchy. Despite the grunge and obvious neglect, it's 100% functional and just needs cosmetic and preventative maintenance.

    Peavey Mark VIII XP cleanup/cleanout

Hey, I just liberated a Mark VIII XP head from a local pawn shop! Judging by the crud on the cooling fan vanes, it's going to need a dust bunny purge before I dare deploy it on a gig. Is there anything not obvious on this rig that I need to look out for/take special care not to break when I...

Small amp suggestions for accompanying fiddle and acoustic instruments.

I think you've done well. I've been in a similar situation, and used a 30W 1x8 combo when accompanying an unplugged fiddle, mandolin, and guitar. When a keyboard player and electric rhythm guitar player started showing up to jam with us in a 40-by-50 foot hall, my setup didn't have the guts to...

    NAD 70's Fender Bassman 10

I have an uncle who gigged on one of these for years and years. Wish I would've had the chance to buy it from him...it's long gone now.

    8-inch replacement speaker

Played around with various enclosure calculators, and ended up going with the Pyle PPA8 for about $24 delivered. Lower SPL than the Alpha 8A, but more usable low-end response in my application. Should be here in a couple of days. The Jensen Punch 8/150 looked like the best option...

    8-inch replacement speaker

I know they don't have to match...was just worried about damaging a 25W driver in a 30W combo. If it was a sealed enclosure rather than a vented one, I wouldn't be so concerned. Right now, I'm looking at the spec sheet for the Eminence Beta-8A. My box volume (.58 cubic feet) falls within...

    8-inch replacement speaker

My Jay Turser GA-30B 30W Combo has a rattling 8-inch speaker. I'd like to replace it, preferably with something more durable and efficient. The current speaker is only marked MB 100830C and I didn't have any luck finding it on Google. Impedance measured out at 8 ohms. The enclosure neasure...
