I did a brief check out of the new bridge that came installed on a 4003ac model. I like the new bridge with it's available adjustments, it feels quite solid, and it looks good too. I plan on installing the new v2 bridge on both a 2016 and a 2017 4003. I've no qualms about the few new screw holes...

I played one of those. It has a really lovely clear zing to the upper mids, with it's factory fresh strings it had a very piano like quality indeed. Perhaps due to the single truss rod and v2 bridge, unlike my other 4003 basses I couldn't detect any dead spots on the neck.

I have a 4003W, and I prefer it over the standard maple versions. These generally weigh about a half pound lighter than the maples do (mine is 8.5 lbs). That along with it's satin finish makes it the notably more comfortable version.

The output on those Hofner pickips is actually very strong which may be hard to realize from the nature of those early 60's recordings and mixes. Their thick tone is also excellent for old school/low-fi Dub and Ska styles too. Warm and wooly in spades. Also, perhaps of interest to potential...
